Programming Your Remote Control

There are two methods to program your universal remote control:

  • Direct Code Entry: This is the recommended method for its simplicity and speed.
  • Automatic Code Search: This method scans through all codes stored in the remote to find a compatible code for your device.

Method 1: Direct Code Entry (Recommended)

This method involves entering a 4-digit code directly from the included code list for your specific device brand.

  1. Locate the code list provided with your remote. Find the section for the device type you wish to control (e.g., TV, CBL, DVD, AUX). Identify your device's brand and list all corresponding remote codes.
  2. Press and hold the "SETUP" button on the remote until the red indicator light illuminates. Release the "SETUP" button. The red light will remain on. (Note: The red light is a small indicator at the top of the remote or the power button itself).
  3. Press and release the device button (e.g., TV, CBL, DVD, AUX) on the remote corresponding to the type of device you want to control. The red light will flash once and then remain on. (Note: Any device button can be programmed to control any device. For example, you can use the CBL button to control a satellite receiver, digital converter, streaming media player, or any device category in the code list).
  4. Use the number keys on the remote to enter the first 4-digit code you found in the code list for your device. The red light will turn off after the fourth digit is entered.
  5. Point the remote at the device. Test the buttons on the remote to see if the device responds as expected. If the buttons do not operate the device, return to step 2 and try the next code you found for that device.
  6. Repeat steps 1-5 for each device you wish to control.

Programming Notes:

  • Some codes may only operate certain functions of your device. There might be another code in the list that controls more functions. Test other codes for full functionality.
  • If you cannot find a working code or if your device brand is not listed, use the Automatic Code Search method described next.
  • For combination devices (e.g., TV/DVD combo), you may need to enter a separate code for each component.
  • It is recommended to write down the codes used for future reference.

Method 2: Automatic Code Search

The Automatic Code Search process allows the remote to search through its stored codes to find one for your device. Read all steps before starting.

  1. Manually turn on the device you wish to control. (Note: This method cannot be used for devices without an on/off capability. Use Direct Code Entry in such cases).
  4. Point the remote at the device, then press and release the "Power" button on the remote. The remote will send 10 different codes to your device. The red light will flash once for each code and remain on after all 10 codes are sent.
    • Is the device off? If yes, proceed to step 5.
    • If no, repeat step 4 to test the next 10 codes.
  5. Manually turn the device back on.
  6. Point the remote at the device, then press and release the "VOL +" button. The remote will resend the first code from the batch of 10 codes tested in step 4. The red light will flash once and remain on.
    • Is the device off? If yes, you have found a code for your device. Press and release the same device button you pressed in step 3. This will save the code to the remote. Proceed to step 7.
    • If no, continue to press and release the "VOL +" button until the device turns off, testing the remaining 9 codes from the batch. Ensure you wait approximately 3 seconds after each "VOL +" press to allow the device to respond. Once the device turns off, you have found a code. Press and release the same device button you pressed in step 3. This will save the code to the remote. Proceed to step 7.
    • Note: The "VOL -" button can be used to go back through each batch of 10 codes. The red light will flash twice after testing the first or last code in each batch of 10.
  7. Use the remote to turn the device back on. Test the buttons on the remote to see if the device responds as expected. If the buttons do not operate the device, return to step 2 and repeat this process to search for a better code.
  8. Repeat this process for each device you wish to control.

Controlling Combination Devices

Some combination devices (e.g., TV/VCR, TV/DVD, DVD/VCR) require setting up two different device buttons to control both parts of the combined unit. For example, if you have a TV/DVD combo, you may need to set a code under the TV button to control the TV functions and a separate code under the DVD button to control the DVD functions.

Troubleshooting

  • Remote not responding: Ensure batteries are correctly installed and not depleted. Replace batteries if necessary.
  • Device not responding after programming: The entered code may be incorrect or only partially compatible. Try other codes from the code list for your device brand using the Direct Code Entry method. If multiple codes are available, test them all.
  • Limited functionality after programming: Some codes may only control basic functions. Try other codes for your device using either programming method to find one that offers more comprehensive control.
  • Automatic Code Search not working for a device: The Automatic Code Search method requires the device to have an on/off function. If your device lacks this, use the Direct Code Entry method.
  • Red indicator light not illuminating during setup: Ensure the "SETUP" button is pressed and held long enough until the light appears. If it still doesn't light up, check batteries.

Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your universal remote control, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Wipe the remote with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the remote's finish or internal components.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace batteries when the remote's response becomes sluggish or the indicator light fails to illuminate properly. Always replace both batteries at the same time with new ones of the same type (AAA).
  • Storage: Store the remote in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity. If the remote will not be used for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.
  • Avoid Drops and Impacts: Protect the remote from physical damage by avoiding drops and impacts.
