3. Setup
Unpacking
- Carefully remove the refrigerator from its packaging.
- Inspect the appliance for any shipping damage. Report any damage to your supplier immediately.
- Retain the packaging materials for potential future transport or return.
Installation Location
- Choose a dry, well-ventilated location for installation.
- Avoid direct sunlight or proximity to heat sources (e.g., ovens, radiators).
- Ensure sufficient space around the appliance for proper air circulation, especially at the rear where the compressor is located.
- The appliance is designed for built-in installation. Ensure the cabinet or mounting area can support the weight of the refrigerator when full.
Electrical Connection
- The Dometic CD 20 operates on 12/24V DC power.
- Connect the appliance directly to a suitable DC power source (e.g., vehicle battery) using appropriate wiring and fusing.
- Ensure the polarity is correct: positive to positive, negative to negative. Incorrect polarity can damage the unit.
- If extending the power cable, use wires of adequate gauge to prevent voltage drop, which can affect performance. Consult a qualified technician if unsure.
4. Operating Instructions
Turning On/Off
- To turn on the refrigerator, ensure it is properly connected to a power source. The unit will typically start automatically.
- To turn off, disconnect the power supply.
Temperature Control
- The temperature is adjusted using the control dial located inside the refrigerator (refer to Figure 5).
- Rotate the dial towards 'MAX' for colder temperatures and towards 'MIN' for warmer temperatures.
- The '0' position indicates the unit is off.
- Allow several hours for the refrigerator to reach the desired temperature after initial startup or adjustment.
Loading the Refrigerator
- Do not overload the refrigerator. Ensure there is space for air to circulate around items for efficient cooling.
- Store food in sealed containers to prevent moisture loss and odors.
- Avoid placing hot food directly into the refrigerator; allow it to cool down first.
5. Maintenance
Cleaning
- Always disconnect the power supply before cleaning.
- Clean the interior and exterior of the refrigerator regularly with a damp cloth and a mild detergent.
- Do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage surfaces.
- Wipe dry thoroughly after cleaning.
Defrosting
- The Dometic CD 20 features automatic defrosting. However, a layer of ice may still form on the evaporator plate over time.
- If a thick layer of ice builds up, manually defrost the unit by turning it off and leaving the drawer slightly ajar.
- Place a towel or container to catch any meltwater.
- Never use sharp objects or heating devices to remove ice.
Ventilation Grilles
- Regularly check and clean the ventilation grilles to ensure proper airflow to the compressor. Dust and debris can reduce cooling efficiency.
