6. Cleaning and Maintenance
Proper cleaning and maintenance are crucial for hygiene and the longevity of your breast pump.
6.1 Disassembly for Cleaning
After each use, carefully disassemble all parts that come into contact with breast milk: the breast shield, flange insert (if used), linker, diaphragm, valve, and milk collection bottle.
6.2 Cleaning Instructions
- Wash: Rinse all disassembled parts under cold running water to remove any milk residue. Then, wash them in warm, soapy water using a mild dish soap. Use a soft brush to clean hard-to-reach areas.
- Rinse: Rinse thoroughly under clean running water to remove all soap residue.
- Sanitize: For initial use and at least once daily, sanitize the parts. This can be done by boiling them in water for 5 minutes or using a steam sterilizer.
- Dry: Air dry all parts on a clean drying rack. Ensure all components are completely dry before reassembly or storage to prevent mold or bacterial growth.
- Note: The pump motor unit should only be wiped clean with a damp cloth. Do not wash it under running water or immerse it. The pump parts are not dishwasher-safe.
6.3 Storage
Store the clean and dry pump components in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
