2. Safety Information
Please read and understand the following safety guidelines before using your Grote GYS-35 electric guitar:
- Electrical Safety: When connecting to an amplifier or other electronic equipment, ensure all devices are properly grounded and use appropriate cables. Avoid using the guitar in wet conditions or near water.
- Handling: Always handle the guitar with care. Avoid dropping or subjecting it to strong impacts, which can cause damage to the finish, electronics, or structural integrity.
- Storage: Store the guitar in its gig bag or a hard case when not in use to protect it from dust, humidity, and physical damage. Avoid extreme temperatures or sudden temperature changes.
- Cleaning: Use only approved guitar cleaning products and soft cloths to clean the instrument. Avoid abrasive materials or harsh chemicals.
3. Setup
3.1 Unpacking
Carefully remove the guitar from its packaging. Inspect the instrument for any signs of damage that may have occurred during shipping. Retain the original packaging for future transport or storage.
3.2 Initial Inspection
Before playing, check the following:
- Strings: Ensure all six strings are present and properly seated at the bridge and tuning machines.
- Tuning Machines: Verify that the tuning machines turn smoothly and hold tension.
- Neck: Check for any visible warping or twisting of the neck.
- Electronics: Confirm that all knobs and switches operate freely.
3.3 Tuning
Your guitar will likely be out of tune upon arrival. Use an electronic tuner to tune the guitar to standard EADGBe (low to high). Turn the tuning pegs slowly and precisely until each string reaches the correct pitch.

3.4 Connecting to an Amplifier
Connect one end of a standard 1/4-inch instrument cable to the output jack on the side of the guitar body. Connect the other end to the input jack of your guitar amplifier. Ensure your amplifier's volume is set to a low level before turning it on.
4. Operating
4.1 Controls
The GYS-35 features a standard control layout for electric guitars, with added coil-splitting functionality:
- Pickup Selector Switch: This 3-way toggle switch allows you to select between the neck pickup, bridge pickup, or both pickups simultaneously.
- Volume Knobs: There are two volume knobs, one for each pickup. Turn clockwise to increase volume, counter-clockwise to decrease.
- Tone Knobs: There are two tone knobs, one for each pickup. These control the treble response. Turn clockwise for brighter tones, counter-clockwise for warmer, darker tones.
- Coil-Splitting (Push/Pull Knobs): The volume knobs are also push/pull switches. When pulled up, they 'split' the humbucker pickup into a single-coil, offering a brighter, thinner tone. Push down for the full humbucker sound.

5. Maintenance
5.1 Cleaning
- Body and Neck: Wipe down the body and back of the neck with a soft, lint-free cloth after each use to remove sweat and fingerprints. For a deeper clean, use a guitar-specific polish.
- Fretboard: Periodically clean the fretboard to remove grime. Use a lemon oil or fretboard conditioner (suitable for rosewood/ebony, if applicable) to keep the wood hydrated.
- Strings: Wipe strings with a clean cloth after playing to extend their life and maintain tone.
5.2 String Replacement
Strings should be replaced regularly, depending on playing frequency and personal preference. Replace one string at a time to maintain neck tension. Use appropriate gauge strings for electric guitars.
5.3 Storage
When not in use, store your GYS-35 in its gig bag or a hard case. Keep it in a climate-controlled environment, away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity, which can cause damage to the wood and finish.
6. Troubleshooting
- No Sound: Check cable connections, amplifier power, and guitar volume/tone settings. Ensure the pickup selector is not in an 'off' position (if applicable).
- Buzzing/Fretting Out: This can be caused by low action, uneven frets, or improper neck relief. Minor adjustments may be possible, but for persistent issues, consult a qualified guitar technician.
- Poor Tuning Stability: Ensure strings are properly wound on tuning pegs. New strings may take time to stretch. Check for worn tuning machines or nut slots.
- Electronic Noise: Ensure proper grounding of your amplifier and cables. Avoid playing near sources of electromagnetic interference.
For complex issues or repairs, it is recommended to seek assistance from a professional guitar technician.
