1. Secondary Controls

The VG-XH grip provides a full set of controls mirrored from the camera body, optimized for comfortable vertical shooting. These include:

  • Shutter Release Button: For capturing photos.
  • Focus Lever: To quickly adjust focus points.
  • AE-L Button: For Auto Exposure Lock.
  • AF-ON Button: For Auto Focus On.
  • Q Button: Accesses the Quick Menu.
  • Fn Button: A customizable function button.
  • Front and Rear Command Dials: For adjusting settings like aperture, shutter speed, and exposure compensation.

Ensure the grip's lock switch (if present, typically near the shutter button) is in the "unlocked" position to enable these controls.

2. Performance Modes

A toggle switch on the grip allows you to select between different performance modes, affecting battery consumption and camera responsiveness:

  • ECO Mode: Prioritizes battery conservation, ideal for extended shooting sessions where maximum performance is not critical.
  • NORMAL Mode: Standard performance mode, offering a balance between battery life and responsiveness.
  • BOOST Mode: Maximizes camera performance and responsiveness, suitable for demanding shooting situations like high-speed continuous shooting or video recording. Note that this mode will consume battery power more rapidly.

Maintenance and Care

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the grip. For stubborn dirt, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by immediate drying. Avoid using strong solvents or abrasive cleaners.
  • Contacts: Periodically inspect the electrical contacts on both the grip and your camera for dust or debris. Clean them gently with a dry, lint-free cloth if necessary.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, remove batteries from the grip. Store the grip in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Weather Resistance: While weather-resistant, avoid intentionally exposing the grip to heavy rain, snow, or dust. Always ensure the battery compartment is securely closed when in use.
