Introduction

The Fujifilm X-H2S offers a powerful and versatile combination of photographic and filmmaking features. Central to its design are the 26.1-megapixel, back-illuminated X-Trans 5 stacked sensor and X-Processor 5, providing a 14-stop dynamic range and outstanding performance in various lighting conditions. This manual provides essential information for setting up, operating, and maintaining your camera.

Setup

  1. Charge the Battery: Use the supplied USB-C cable and power adapter to charge the NP-W235 battery. The battery can also be charged internally via the camera's USB-C port.
  2. Insert Memory Card: Open the memory card slot cover on the side of the camera. Insert a CFexpress Type B card into slot 1 and/or an SD card into slot 2. Ensure the cards are inserted correctly until they click into place.
  3. Attach a Lens: Align the red dot on the lens with the red dot on the camera body. Rotate the lens clockwise until it clicks into place.
  4. Power On: Turn the ON/OFF switch to the 'ON' position.

Operating the Camera

Basic Controls

  • Mode Dial: Located on the top left, this dial allows you to select various shooting modes (P, S, A, M) and custom settings (C1-C7).
  • Shutter Button: Press halfway to focus, fully to take a picture or start/stop video recording.
  • Joystick (Focus Lever): Used to select autofocus points and navigate menus.
  • LCD Touchscreen: The 3-inch vari-angle LCD allows for flexible viewing angles and touch operations for settings and playback.
  • Top LCD Screen: Provides quick access to essential shooting settings at a glance.

Autofocus Settings

The X-H2S features an advanced autofocus system. You can select different AF modes (AF-S, AF-C, MF) and utilize Subject Detection AF for tracking specific subjects. Adjust AF-C Custom Settings to optimize tracking performance for various scenarios.

Film Simulations

The camera includes 19 built-in Film Simulations that replicate the look of classic film stocks. These can be applied to both photos and videos directly in-camera to achieve unique color and tonal characteristics without extensive post-processing.

Video Recording

To record video, switch the mode dial to the video icon. You can select resolutions up to 6.2K and frame rates up to 240P. For advanced color grading, utilize F-Log or F-Log2 profiles. Internal Apple ProRes recording is available when using a CFexpress Type B card.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning the Camera Body: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the camera body. For stubborn dirt, use a cloth lightly dampened with water or lens cleaner.
  • Cleaning the Lens: Use a lens blower to remove dust, then gently wipe with a lens cleaning cloth.
  • Sensor Cleaning: If dust or debris is visible on images, use a sensor cleaning kit or consult a professional service center.
  • Storage: Store the camera in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

Troubleshooting

  • Camera Not Powering On: Ensure the battery is fully charged and correctly inserted.
  • Image Quality Issues: Check lens cleanliness, sensor cleanliness, and shooting settings (ISO, aperture, shutter speed).
  • Autofocus Problems: Verify AF mode selection and ensure sufficient lighting for the chosen mode.
  • Overheating: Extended video recording, especially at high resolutions, can cause the camera to heat up. Allow the camera to cool down if a temperature warning appears.
