3. Setup Guide

3.1 Subwoofer Placement

Due to its wireless design, the R-80SWi offers significant flexibility in placement. Experiment with different locations to find the optimal position for bass performance in your room. Generally, placing the subwoofer in a corner can enhance bass output. Ensure it is placed on a stable, level surface.

3.2 Connecting the Wireless Transmitter

  1. Locate the subwoofer output (SUB OUT or LFE OUT) on your A/V receiver or pre-amplifier.
  2. Connect one end of the supplied RCA cable to the subwoofer output on your receiver.
  3. Connect the other end of the RCA cable to the input on the compact wireless transmitter.
  4. Plug the wireless transmitter into a standard AC power outlet.

3.3 Powering On and Wireless Pairing

The R-80SWi subwoofer and its wireless transmitter are pre-paired at the factory for convenience. Simply plug the subwoofer's detachable power cord into the subwoofer and then into a standard AC power outlet. Once both the subwoofer and transmitter are powered on, they should automatically establish a wireless connection. A status indicator light on the subwoofer will confirm the connection.

4. Operating Controls

The Klipsch R-80SWi features several controls on its rear panel to fine-tune its performance and integrate it seamlessly with your existing audio system.

  • GAIN (Volume) Control: This knob adjusts the overall output level of the subwoofer. Start with the gain set to about half, then adjust it to blend smoothly with your main speakers. The bass should be present but not overpowering.
  • LOW PASS CROSSOVER Control: This control determines the highest frequency the subwoofer will reproduce. Adjust it to ensure a smooth transition between the subwoofer and your main speakers. A common starting point is around 80-100 Hz, but it may vary depending on your main speakers' low-frequency capabilities.
  • PHASE Control (0°/180°): This switch helps to acoustically match the subwoofer's output with your main speakers. If the bass sounds weak or hollow, try flipping the phase switch between 0° and 180° to see which setting provides the most impactful and coherent bass.
  • LINE IN (LFE) Input: This RCA input is where the wireless transmitter connects. It can also be used for a wired connection if preferred.

5. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Klipsch R-80SWi subwoofer, follow these simple maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Dust the cabinet regularly with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn marks, lightly dampen the cloth with water. Avoid using harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the finish.
  • Placement Environment: Keep the subwoofer away from direct sunlight, heat sources (radiators, vents), and excessive moisture. Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit.
  • Handling: When moving the subwoofer, lift it carefully from the base. Avoid dropping or subjecting it to strong impacts.
  • Power Cord: Periodically check the power cord for any signs of damage. If damaged, replace it immediately with an approved cord.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Klipsch R-80SWi subwoofer, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

ProblemPossible Cause / Solution
No sound from subwoofer
  • Ensure the subwoofer and wireless transmitter are both plugged into active power outlets.

  • Check the Gain control on the subwoofer; it might be set too low.
  • Confirm the receiver's subwoofer output is enabled and volume is adequate.
  • Check the status indicator light on the subwoofer to ensure a wireless connection is established.
Distorted or unclear bass
  • Reduce the Gain control on the subwoofer.
  • Adjust the Low Pass Crossover control to better blend with your main speakers.

  • Check if the subwoofer is on a stable, level surface.
  • Ensure no loose objects are vibrating on or near the subwoofer.
  • Verify that the feet are securely attached and consider adding isolation pads if on a hard floor.
Wireless connection issues
  • Ensure both the subwoofer and transmitter are powered on.
