3.3 Connecting the Spark Plug Wire (RPM/Hour Tracking)
The meter tracks RPM and hours by sensing the electrical pulses from the spark plug. Wrap the signal pick-up wire 5-8 times around the spark plug cable of your engine. Secure the wrapped wire with a cable tie if necessary. The wire length is approximately 68.8 inches and can be shortened or extended if needed.
Video 2: Illustrates the main functions and installation of a similar tachometer, including wrapping the spark plug wire for RPM detection.
3.4 Connecting the Temperature Sensor (TS003)
The TS003 temperature sensor is designed to measure the heat sink temperature. Connect the sensor to the designated port on the meter. Secure the sensor's ring terminal under a bolt on the engine's heat sink or cylinder head to ensure accurate temperature readings.
Video 3: Provides instructions on how to use a similar tachometer and hour meter, including connecting the temperature sensor.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Power On/Off
- Automatic Power On: The meter automatically powers on and displays RPM when it detects engine firing pulses.
- Automatic Power Off: The meter will enter sleep mode after a period of inactivity to conserve battery life.
- Manual Power Off: Press and hold both the 'M' (Mode) and 'S' (Set) buttons simultaneously for 2 seconds to manually turn off the device.
4.2 Display Modes and Navigation
Use the 'M' button to cycle through different display modes:
- TOT (Total Hours): Displays the cumulative engine run time.
- JOB (Job Hours): Displays the run time for a single operation, which can be reset.
- SVC (Service Reminder): Shows the remaining time until the next scheduled service.
- RPM (Revolutions Per Minute): Displays the engine's current RPM.
- MAX RPM: Shows the highest RPM recorded during the current engine run.
- TEMP (Temperature): Displays the current engine temperature.
- MAX TEMP: Shows the highest temperature recorded during the current engine run.
4.3 Setting Engine Firing Patterns (RPM Accuracy)
To ensure accurate RPM readings, set the correct engine firing pattern:
- With the meter off or in a non-RPM display mode, press and hold the 'S' button to enter the settings menu.
- Navigate through the settings using the 'M' button until you find the '1P1R', '1P2R', '2P1R', etc. options (refer to your specific engine type in the manual).
- Use the 'S' button to select the appropriate firing pattern for your engine (e.g., '1P1R' for 1 spark per revolution, 1 cylinder).
- Confirm your selection by pressing 'M' or waiting for the display to return to normal operation.
4.4 Setting Service Intervals (SVC)
To set a service reminder:
- In SVC mode, press and hold the 'S' button. The SVC hour value will flash.
- Use the 'M' button to adjust the desired service interval (e.g., 20 hours, 50 hours).
- Press 'S' to confirm the setting. The meter will count down these hours and alert you when service is due.
4.5 Setting RPM and Temperature Alerts
The meter can be configured to alert you when RPM or temperature thresholds are exceeded:
- RPM Alert: In RPM mode, press and hold 'S' to enter RPM alert setting. Adjust the value using 'M' and confirm with 'S'.
- Temperature Alert: In TEMP mode, press and hold 'S' to enter temperature alert setting. Adjust the value using 'M' and confirm with 'S'.
When an alert condition is met, the display's backlight will turn red, and the corresponding icon will flash.

5.2 Cleaning
Clean the meter's display and casing with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials that could damage the screen or housing. Ensure the unit is dry after cleaning.
6. Troubleshooting
- Display Not Turning On:
- Check if the battery insulation sheet has been removed.
- Verify the battery is correctly installed and has sufficient charge. Replace if necessary.
- Ensure the spark plug wire is properly wrapped around the spark plug cable.
- Incorrect RPM Readings:
- Confirm the engine firing pattern setting matches your engine type (refer to Section 4.3).
- Ensure the spark plug wire is securely wrapped 5-8 times around the spark plug cable.
- Check for any damage to the signal wire.
- Inaccurate Temperature Readings:
- Verify the TS003 temperature sensor is correctly connected to the meter.
- Ensure the sensor's ring terminal is securely attached to a metal part of the engine's heat sink or cylinder head for good thermal contact.
- Check for any damage to the temperature sensor wire.
- Short Battery Life:
- Ensure the backlight is not set to 'Always On' mode if not required.
- Manually turn off the meter when not in use for extended periods (Section 4.1).
