1. Introduction and Overview
The Orbit Yard Enforcer Motion-Activated Sprinkler is designed to humanely protect landscapes and gardens from unwanted animals. It utilizes a powerful combination of water spray, motion detection, and noise to deter animals and condition them to avoid the protected area. This device also features a timed watering function for garden irrigation.
The heat and motion-activated sensor can detect movement from up to 40 feet away, triggering a burst of water. Its heavy-duty metal dual-step spike allows for secure placement in various outdoor environments. The Yard Enforcer includes a flow-through outlet, enabling the connection of additional sprinklers to expand the protected or watered area. It offers a dual-purpose functionality, serving as both an animal deterrent and a 30-minute timed watering system.
2. Key Features
- Humanely Deters Animals: Keeps animals out of plants, yards, and gardens using a harmless spray of water.
- Unique Day and Night Detection: Offers options for day-only, night-only, or 24-hour protection, allowing flexible activation based on your needs.
- Stable Design: Features a robust spike for firm placement in soil or turf.
- Water and Battery Conservation: Advanced sensing technology optimizes water and battery usage, providing over 7,500 activation cycles on 4 AA alkaline batteries with as little as 2 cups of water per activation.

3. Setup
- Unpack Components: Carefully remove all parts from the packaging.
- Install Batteries: Open the battery compartment on the sensor unit and insert 4 AA alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity. Close the compartment securely.
- Assemble Unit: Connect the sprinkler head and sensor unit to the main stake assembly. Ensure all connections are tight.
- Positioning: Select a location in your yard or garden where you wish to deter animals or provide timed watering. Press the dual-step spike firmly into the soil or turf until the unit is stable and upright.
- Connect Water Hose: Attach a standard garden hose to the inlet connection at the base of the unit. Ensure the connection is secure to prevent leaks.
- Adjust Sprinkler Head: Adjust the sprinkler head to cover the desired area. The spray can cover up to 70 feet in diameter.
4. Operating Instructions
The Orbit Yard Enforcer offers various settings to customize its operation:
- Mode Selection (Day/Night/24-Hour): Use the main dial on the sensor unit to select the desired operating mode:
- OFF: Disables the unit.
- DAY: Activates only during daylight hours.
- NIGHT: Activates only during nighttime hours.
- ALWAYS: Activates 24 hours a day.
- Sensor Range Adjustment: Use the 'RANGE' dial to adjust the detection distance of the motion sensor. Turn towards '+' for increased range (up to 40 feet) and towards '-' for decreased range.
- Spray Duration Adjustment: Use the 'DURATION' dial to set how long the water sprays after activation. Adjust to your preference.
- Timed Watering Mode: To use the timed watering feature, select the '30 MIN WATER CYCLE' setting on the main dial. The unit will then water for 30 minutes continuously. This mode does not use the motion sensor.
5. Maintenance
- Battery Replacement: Replace batteries when the unit's performance diminishes or the indicator light (if present) signals low battery. Use 4 new AA alkaline batteries.
- Sensor Cleaning: Periodically wipe the sensor lens with a soft, damp cloth to remove dirt, dust, or debris that may obstruct detection.
- Sprinkler Head Check: Inspect the sprinkler head for any clogs or blockages from debris. Clean as necessary to ensure proper water flow and spray pattern.
- Winter Storage: During freezing temperatures, disconnect the unit from the water source, drain all water, and store it indoors to prevent damage from ice expansion.
- Hose Connection: Regularly check the hose connection for leaks and tighten if necessary.
6. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Unit not activating | Dead or low batteries Sensor obstructed or dirty Incorrect mode selected Object out of range | Replace batteries Clean sensor lens Set mode to DAY, NIGHT, or ALWAYS Adjust sensor range; ensure object is within 40 ft |
| Unit sprays constantly or unintentionally | Sensor too sensitive Constant motion in detection zone (e.g., swaying plants) | Decrease sensor range Relocate unit or clear obstructions from detection zone |
| Weak or no water spray | Low water pressure Hose kinked or clogged Sprinkler head clogged | Ensure adequate water pressure from source Straighten hose; check for debris in hose Clean sprinkler head nozzles |
| Does not detect small animals | Sensor range or sensitivity too low | Increase sensor range and sensitivity settings. Ensure sensor is aimed appropriately for smaller targets. |
