TUSK Lever Grips Instruction Manual

Model: TK-LEVERGRIP-BLK

1. Product Overview

The TUSK Lever Grips are designed to enhance grip on motorcycle, ATV, UTV, scooter, bicycle, and dirt bike levers. Made from a grippy heat-shrink material, these tubes provide improved control in various riding conditions, including rain and mud. They are applied by shrinking with a heat source to conform to the lever's shape.

2. Safety Information

Please read and understand all safety instructions before installation and use.

  • Heat Source: Installation requires a heat gun or similar heat source. Exercise extreme caution to prevent burns to skin or damage to surrounding components.
  • Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation when using a heat gun to avoid inhaling fumes.
  • Flammable Materials: Keep heat source away from flammable materials.
  • Eye Protection: Wear appropriate eye protection during installation.
  • Proper Fit: Ensure grips are fully and securely shrunk onto the levers. Loose grips can interfere with lever operation and create a safety hazard.

3. Package Contents

Each package of TUSK Lever Grips contains:

  • 2 x Textured Heat Shrink Tubes (for clutch and brake levers)

4. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps to properly install your TUSK Lever Grips:

  1. Prepare Levers: Ensure your clutch and brake levers are clean and free of grease, oil, or debris. A clean surface promotes better adhesion and prevents contaminants from being trapped under the grip.
  2. Slide Grips On: The grips have a 3/4-inch (approximately 19mm) opening before shrinking. Carefully slide one grip over each lever. If resistance is encountered, a small amount of isopropyl alcohol or a non-residue lubricant can be applied to the lever to aid in sliding the grip into position. Ensure the grip is positioned correctly on the lever, covering the desired area.

  4. Apply Heat: Using a heat gun (recommended) or a hairdryer on a high heat setting, begin applying heat evenly to the grip. Start from one end (e.g., the end closest to the handlebar) and slowly work your way towards the other end. Move the heat source continuously to prevent overheating any single spot.
  5. Shrink to Fit: As heat is applied, the grip material will begin to shrink and conform tightly to the shape of the lever. Continue applying heat until the grip is snug and wrinkle-free, ensuring full contact with the lever surface. The textured pattern should become clearly defined.

  7. Cool Down: Allow the grips to cool completely before use. This ensures the material sets properly and maintains its tight fit.

5. Operating Instructions

Once installed, the TUSK Lever Grips provide an enhanced tactile surface for your clutch and brake levers. This improved grip is particularly beneficial in wet, muddy, or dusty conditions, or when wearing gloves, allowing for more precise and confident control of your vehicle's levers.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Clean the grips with mild soap and water. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners that could damage the material.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the grips for signs of wear, tear, or loosening. If a grip becomes damaged or loose, replace it immediately to maintain safe operation.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Difficulty Sliding Grips On: If the grips are difficult to slide over the levers, ensure the levers are clean. A small amount of isopropyl alcohol or a non-residue lubricant can be applied to the lever to reduce friction.
  • Grips Not Shrinking Evenly: Ensure the heat gun is moved continuously and evenly across the surface of the grip. Avoid concentrating heat in one spot. If wrinkles appear, reapply heat to the affected area while gently smoothing the material.
  • Grips Feel Loose After Shrinking: This indicates insufficient heat application. Reapply heat evenly until the grip is tightly conformed to the lever. If the grip remains loose, it may need to be replaced.
