Model: S-RF220

1. Introduction

The AEGISLINK S-RF220 Wireless Interconnected Smoke Detector is designed to provide reliable and comprehensive fire safety for your home. Utilizing advanced wireless radio frequency (RF) technology, these alarms communicate with each other, ensuring that if one alarm detects smoke, all interconnected alarms will sound, alerting everyone in the household to the potential danger.

Key features of the S-RF220 include:

  • RF Interlinked: When one alarm sounds, all interconnected alarms activate, providing widespread notification.
  • 10-Year Lifespan: Designed for long-term, stable, and reliable performance.
  • Wide Communication Range: Over 820 ft (250 m) transmission range outdoors, ensuring comprehensive coverage.
  • One-Button Control: Easily test or silence the entire interlinked system with a single button press.
  • Complete Home Coverage: Up to 24 AEGISLINK RF wireless alarms (S-RF200/S-RF220/SC-RF200/SC-RF220) can be interlinked.

2. Setup and Installation

2.1 Unboxing and Components

Upon opening the package, you will find the smoke detector unit(s), a mounting bracket, drywall anchors, screws, and a pairing pin. The instruction manual is also included and can be downloaded from the product's Amazon page for convenience.

2.2 Battery Installation

The S-RF220 operates on a CR123A 3V lithium battery, which is designed to last for approximately 5 years. The battery comes protected by a plastic tab to prevent discharge before use. To install or replace the battery:

  1. Remove the mounting bracket by twisting the detector counter-clockwise.
  2. Locate the battery compartment. A pull tab is provided to easily remove the battery.
  3. Insert the CR123A 3V lithium battery, ensuring correct polarity as indicated by the diagram inside the compartment.
  4. Reattach the mounting bracket by aligning and twisting clockwise until secure.

2.3 Mounting the Detector

The mounting bracket allows for easy installation on a ceiling or wall. Choose a suitable location according to local fire safety guidelines, typically in hallways, bedrooms, and living areas.

  1. Use the mounting bracket as a template to mark screw holes on the desired surface.
  2. Drill pilot holes if necessary and insert drywall anchors.
  3. Secure the mounting bracket to the surface using the provided screws.
  4. Attach the smoke detector unit to the mounted bracket by aligning and twisting clockwise until it clicks securely into place.

2.4 Interconnection (Pairing)

The S-RF220 detectors can be used as standalone units or interconnected for enhanced safety. Up to 24 AEGISLINK RF wireless alarms can be paired together. If one alarm is triggered, all paired alarms will sound.

To pair multiple units:

  1. Ensure all units have batteries installed and are powered on.
  2. Use the provided pairing pin to press the pairing hole on the back of each unit. Follow the specific pairing sequence detailed in the instruction manual for successful interconnection.
  3. Test the interconnected system after pairing to confirm all units respond.

3. Operation

3.1 Testing the Alarm

Regular testing is crucial to ensure your smoke detector is functioning correctly. The S-RF220 features a convenient one-button control for testing:

  • Press and hold the 'TEST/SILENCE' button located on the front of the detector.
  • The alarm will sound a loud siren, and the LED indicator will flash. If interconnected, all paired alarms should also sound.
  • Release the button to stop the test.

3.2 Silencing the Alarm

In case of a false alarm (e.g., from cooking fumes), you can temporarily silence the alarm:

  • Press the 'TEST/SILENCE' button once. This will mute the alarm for approximately 10 minutes.
  • Ensure the cause of the alarm is cleared before the silence period ends.

4. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and effectiveness of your smoke detectors.

4.1 Regular Testing

Test your smoke detectors monthly to ensure they are in working order. Refer to section 3.1 for testing instructions.

4.2 Cleaning

Dust and debris can interfere with the detector's performance. Clean your smoke detector at least once a year:

  • Gently vacuum the exterior of the detector using a soft brush attachment.
  • Do not paint the detector, as this can block the sensor openings.

4.3 Battery Replacement

The CR123A 3V lithium battery has a lifespan of approximately 5 years. The detector will emit a low battery warning (a chirp or specific light pattern) when the battery needs replacement. Replace the battery promptly when indicated. Refer to section 2.2 for battery installation instructions.

5. Troubleshooting

If your smoke detector is not functioning as expected, consider the following common issues:

  • False Alarms: Ensure the detector is not installed too close to cooking appliances, fireplaces, or areas with high humidity. Clean the detector to remove any dust or debris that might be triggering false alarms.
  • No Alarm During Test: Check if the battery is correctly installed and fully charged. If the issue persists, the unit may need replacement.
  • Interconnection Issues: Re-check the pairing process for all units as per the manual. Ensure units are within the specified communication range.
  • Low Battery Warning: Replace the CR123A 3V lithium battery immediately.
