iSpring WSP50J Reusable Whole House Spin-Down Sediment Water Filter Instruction Manual

Brand: iSpring

Model: WSP50J

1. Introduction and Product Overview

The iSpring WSP50J is an upgraded jumbo-sized whole house spin-down sediment water filter designed to provide a reliable first line of defense against various water pollutants. It features a large 1-gallon capacity, which is significantly larger than traditional sediment filters, and supports a maximum flow rate of 25 GPM. This prefilter effectively removes up to 99% of large particulates such as sediments, dirt, rust, sand, and floating objects, thereby protecting downstream equipment and appliances like pipelines, water purifiers, water heaters, washing machines, and showerheads from potential damage and extending their lifespan.

2. Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the optimal performance of your iSpring WSP50J filter. This section provides step-by-step instructions for setting up your filter. Ensure you have all required parts and tools before beginning.

Required Parts & Tools (Not all included):

  • iSpring WSP50J Filter Unit
  • Housing Wrench (included)
  • User Manual (included)
  • Mounting Bracket (included)
  • Drain Tube (included)
  • Battery, Adapter, and Spare parts (included)
  • Inlet/Outlet Fittings (not included, 1" MNPT / 3/4" FNPT)
  • Pipe Cutter
  • Adjustable Wrench
  • Power Drill/Driver
  • Water Bucket
  • Plumber's Tape

Precautions:

  • This system must be installed in a dry indoor environment away from heat sources.
  • This system is only suitable for municipal tap water and well water within the temperature range of 40°F - 100°F.
  • Do not allow wastewater or corrosive liquids to pass through the filter.
  • The filter must be installed upright. Ensure that the water flow direction marked on the valve body is the same as the direction of water flow within the pipeline.
  • It is suggested to flush the filter screen at least once every month.
  • The unit comes with two types of threads on both ends: 1" Male NPT, 3/4" Female NPT, and 3/8" quick connector for drain tubing.
  • Reliable drainage close to the installation is recommended but not required. If using buckets instead of proper drainage, use manual flush instead of automatic mode to avoid water overflow.

Installation Steps:

  1. Prepare Connections: Apply plumber's tape evenly on the machine head threads. Screw the connectors to the threads and tighten them with a wrench.
  2. Install Batteries (if applicable): Remove the battery cover on the auto-flushing module and insert three AA batteries. (Batteries are not required if you are using the power adapter).
  3. Shut Off Water Supply: Shut off the main water line to your house. Open the nearest faucet to drain any remaining water from the pipes and release pressure.
  4. Select Location & Cut Pipe: Find a suitable location for the filter on your main water line. Measure and cut the water inlet pipe. Use a bucket to catch any remaining water from the pipe.
  5. Mount Filter: Install the mounting bracket to the machine head with 4 screws. Mark the system mounting spot on the wall with the mounting bracket. Mount the system on the wall with mounting screws and connect it to the pipeline. Ensure the direction arrow on the machine head is the same as the direction of water flow within the pipeline.
  6. Connect Drain Tubing: Remove the drain cover. Insert the drain tubing to the 3/8-inch quick connect drain port. Lock the tubing in place by inserting the locking clip. Reinstall the drain cover.
  7. Route Drain Line: Connect or insert the drain tubing to a drainpipe or a drain hole.
  8. Restore Water Supply: Turn on the main water supply. Ensure there are no leaks on all connectors. The installation is now complete.

3. Operating (Flushing)

Regular flushing of your iSpring WSP50J filter is essential to maintain its efficiency and prolong its lifespan. The filter supports both manual and automatic flushing methods.

Manual Flushing (WSP-J Series):

The WSP-J series filter can be flushed by turning the drain valve switch to the horizontal position. We recommend flushing the filter at least once every month, depending on the quality of the water being filtered.

Auto Flushing (WSP-ARJ Series):

The WSP-ARJ series has an auto-flushing module pre-set to flush for 15 seconds every 15 days. The flushing frequency and length can be adjusted according to the quality of your source water.

  1. Turn on Screen: Press the HOME button once to turn on the screen.
  2. Adjust Flush Frequency: Press the SET button to enter the adjust mode. Press + or - mark to adjust the flush frequency in days.
  3. Adjust Flush Runtime: Press the SET button again to adjust the flush runtime. Press + or - mark to adjust flush runtime in seconds.
  4. Perform Manual Flush: Press the DRAIN button to perform flushing manually.
  5. Reset to Default: Press the AUTO button to use default settings.

4. Maintenance

If regular flushing does not remove the buildup in the filter housing, removing the filter assembly for cleaning is recommended.

  1. Prepare for Disassembly: Shut off the main water line and open the nearest faucet to drain the water from the pipe and release pressure.
  2. Disassemble Filter: Unscrew the drain cover and pull out the circlip to remove the drain valve switch or auto-flushing module. Remove the ball valve cover and the drain line. Unscrew the filter housing clockwise using the included housing wrench. Completely remove the housing and filter assembly from the head machine. Use a bucket to catch any remaining water from the pipe.
  3. Clean Filter Assembly: Clean the filter assembly with a brush and/or soak it in vinegar to remove stubborn buildup.
  4. Reinstall Filter Assembly: After the filter assembly is cleaned, reinstall the assembly back into the filter housing. Be careful to line up the filter housing with the head machine and turn it clockwise to screw on the housing. Tighten it with a housing wrench. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN.
  5. Reinstall Drain Components: Install the ball valve cover, followed by the drain valve switch or the auto-flushing module. Insert the circlip to lock it in place. Reinstall the drain line and drain cover.
  6. Restore Water Supply: Turn on the main water supply. Ensure there are no leaks and that the filter is working properly.

5. Troubleshooting

This section provides solutions to common issues you might encounter with your iSpring WSP50J filter.

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Low Water Pressure / Reduced FlowClogged filter screen due to excessive sediment buildup.Perform a manual or auto flush. If flow does not improve, disassemble and clean the filter assembly as described in the Maintenance section.
Water Leaks from ConnectionsLoose connections, improperly seated O-rings, or damaged O-rings.Ensure all connections are tightened properly. Disassemble the housing, inspect O-rings for proper seating and damage. Replace O-rings if necessary.
Auto-Flushing Module Not WorkingDead batteries or power adapter issue. Module settings incorrect.Check and replace batteries if needed. Ensure power adapter is securely connected. Verify module settings as per the Operating section.
Visible Sediment in Filter Housing After FlushingInsufficient flushing duration or frequency. Extremely high sediment load.Increase flushing duration or frequency. Consider manual cleaning of the filter assembly more often. For very high sediment, a coarser pre-filter might be needed upstream.
