3. Setup and Connection
- Prepare the Battery: Ensure the battery terminals are clean and free of corrosion. If charging a lead-acid battery, check fluid levels if applicable and top up with distilled water if necessary (for non-sealed batteries).
- Connect to Battery:
- Using the supplied battery clips (O-14): Connect the red (+) clip to the positive battery terminal and the black (-) clip to the negative battery terminal. Ensure a secure connection.
- For permanent connection: Use the supplied ring terminal lead (TA-31) for a more convenient long-term connection.
- Connect to AC Power: Plug the charger's AC cord into a standard wall outlet. The charger will initiate its diagnostic sequence.

4. Operating Instructions
4.1. Battery Type Selection
The OptiMate PRO-1 DUO automatically detects the battery type. However, you can manually select between Lead-Acid (Pb) and Lithium (LFP) modes if needed. Refer to the charger's interface for specific selection buttons or indicators.

Figure 4: The charger supports 12.8V LFP (Li-Ion, LiFePO4, LiFe) and 12V Pb (Lead-Acid, AGM, GEL, STD) battery types.
4.2. 11-Step Charging Program
The charger employs an advanced 11-step program to diagnose, recover, charge, and maintain your battery. This process includes:
- Diagnosis: Checks battery voltage and condition.
- Recovery: Attempts to recover deeply discharged batteries.
- Bulk Charge: Delivers maximum current to bring the battery to near full capacity.
- Optimization: Balances cells and optimizes charge.
- Maintenance: Provides long-term float charge to keep the battery at optimal levels without overcharging.
4.3. PowerSupply Mode
The PowerSupply mode provides stable battery support, crucial during vehicle diagnostics, tuning, or software updates. This prevents voltage drops that could disrupt sensitive electronic systems.

Figure 5: The PowerSupply mode maintains stable voltage for vehicle electronics during adjustments or software updates.
4.4. Deep Discharged Battery Recovery
The smart recovery mode can revive deeply discharged batteries. It first attempts recovery and then retests the battery after a charge cycle to confirm its health.

Figure 6: Illustration of the smart recovery process for deeply discharged batteries, showing voltage measurement.
4.5. BMS Wake-Up Mode
For Lithium batteries with an integrated Battery Management System (BMS), the charger includes a BMS wake-up mode. This safely brings batteries out of sleep mode, allowing them to accept a charge.

Figure 7: The BMS wake-up function for advanced Lithium batteries, allowing them to exit sleep mode and begin charging.
4.6. New Battery Activation
The OptiMate PRO-1 DUO provides automatic fast activation for new or recently serviced batteries, ensuring they are ready for use quickly and efficiently.

5. Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and proper functioning of your OptiMate PRO-1 DUO:
- Keep the charger clean and dry. Wipe with a soft, damp cloth if necessary. Do not use harsh chemicals.
- Inspect cables and connectors regularly for any signs of damage. Replace damaged components immediately.
- Store the charger in a cool, dry place when not in use.
- For long-term battery maintenance, leave the charger connected to the battery. The OptiMate PRO-1 DUO will automatically switch to maintenance mode, preventing overcharge and sulfation.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your OptiMate PRO-1 DUO, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
- Charger not turning on: Ensure the AC cord is securely plugged into a live wall outlet. Check for tripped circuit breakers.
- Battery not charging: Verify that the battery connections (clips or ring terminals) are secure and correctly attached to the battery terminals (red to positive, black to negative). Ensure the battery type selection is correct.
- Error indicators: The charger's LED indicators provide diagnostic feedback. Consult the specific LED patterns on the device for detailed error codes and their meanings. A 'bad battery' is quickly identified by the system.
- Deeply discharged battery not recovering: While the charger has a recovery mode, extremely damaged or short-circuited batteries may not be recoverable. If recovery fails, the battery may need replacement.
