4. Setup and Installation
Proper installation is crucial for the safe and efficient operation of your MPPT solar charge controller.
4.1 Mounting the Controller
- Choose a dry, well-ventilated location, protected from direct sunlight, high temperatures, and water.
- Mount the controller vertically on a non-flammable surface to allow for proper heat dissipation.
- Ensure there is at least 150mm (6 inches) of clearance above and below the controller for airflow.
- Use appropriate screws to secure the controller through its mounting holes (refer to Figure 3.2.5).
4.2 Wiring Connections
Follow the wiring sequence carefully to prevent damage to the controller or other components.
- Connect the Battery: Connect the battery to the controller's battery terminals (positive to positive, negative to negative). Ensure the battery is charged sufficiently (above 10V) for the controller to recognize it.
- Connect the Solar PV Array: Connect the solar panel array to the controller's PV terminals (positive to positive, negative to negative). Ensure the open-circuit voltage of the PV array does not exceed the controller's maximum input voltage.
- Connect the Load (Optional): Connect the DC load to the controller's load terminals (positive to positive, negative to negative). Do not exceed the controller's rated load current.
- Connect Optional Accessories: If using, connect the Remote Temperature Sensor (RTS) to the RTS port and any communication modules (e.g., RS485 to PC adapter) to the RS485 port.
Important: Always ensure correct polarity for all connections. Incorrect polarity can cause severe damage.
