3. Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for optimal performance and safety. It is highly recommended that installation be performed by a qualified audio technician or electrician.

3.1 Site Selection

3.3 Wiring the Transformer and Speaker

The DSL-805-72 features a 25V/70V dual voltage transformer with multiple power taps. This allows for flexible power distribution in constant voltage audio systems.

  1. Determine Power Tap: Select the desired wattage tap (0.25W, 0.5W, 1W, 2W, 5W) on the transformer based on your system's design and desired sound level. Higher wattage taps will result in louder output.
  2. Connect to Amplifier: Connect the appropriate 25V or 70V output from your amplifier to the corresponding input terminals on the speaker's transformer. Ensure correct polarity (+ to + and - to -).
  3. Secure Connections: Use appropriate wire connectors (e.g., wire nuts, terminal blocks) to ensure secure and insulated connections.
  4. Test System: Before fully securing the grille, perform a low-volume test to ensure proper operation.

WARNING: Incorrect wiring or connection to a standard low-impedance amplifier (e.g., 8-ohm) can damage the speaker and/or amplifier. Always use with 25V or 70V constant voltage audio systems.

4. Operating Instructions

Once properly installed and wired, the Lowell DSL-805-72 speaker operates as part of your constant voltage audio system.

  • Power On: Turn on your amplifier or audio source.
  • Volume Control: Adjust the overall system volume from your amplifier. The individual speaker's volume is determined by the selected transformer tap during installation.
  • Sound Quality: Ensure the audio source is clean and free of distortion for optimal sound reproduction.

5. Maintenance

The DSL-805-72 speaker requires minimal maintenance.

  • Cleaning: Periodically wipe the enclosure and grille with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Inspection: Annually inspect all wiring connections for tightness and signs of wear or corrosion.
  • Damage: If the speaker or enclosure appears damaged, disconnect power immediately and contact a qualified technician for repair or replacement.
