Operating Instructions
Chuck Operation
The drill features a 1/2 inch metal ratcheting chuck for high bit retention. To install a drill bit or accessory, twist the chuck counter-clockwise to open the jaws. Insert the bit, then twist clockwise to tighten the chuck firmly around the bit. Ensure the bit is centered and secure before operation.

Speed Settings
The drill features a high-speed transmission with two mechanical speed settings (0-650 RPM and 0-2,000 RPM). Use the speed selector switch located on top of the drill to choose between low speed (1) for high torque applications and high speed (2) for faster drilling.
Variable Speed Trigger
The variable speed trigger allows for precise control over drilling speed. Press the trigger lightly for slower speeds and increase pressure for higher speeds. This enables optimal control for various materials and applications.
LED Work Light
The adjustable, 3-position 70 Lumens LED light enhances visibility in dimly lit work areas. It features three modes, including an LED spotlight mode with a 20-minute shutoff function for extended illumination.

Forward/Reverse Control
The forward/reverse control button is located above the trigger. Push it to the left for forward (clockwise) rotation for drilling and fastening. Push it to the right for reverse (counter-clockwise) rotation for removing screws or backing out bits. Center the button for the lock-off position to prevent accidental starting.
Brushless Motor Technology
This drill is equipped with a high-output brushless motor, which provides increased efficiency, longer runtime, and extended tool life compared to brushed motors. This technology ensures consistent performance under demanding conditions.

Compact Design for Tight Spaces
The drill's compact 6.37 inch size makes it 1/2 inch shorter in length compared to the DCD791 model (tool head only). This design allows for easier access to hard-to-reach work areas and reduces user fatigue during prolonged use.

Optimized Performance
The drill is designed for optimized performance and runtime, delivering up to 40% more unit watts out compared to the DCD791 with a DCBP034 DEWALT POWERSTACK™ Battery or DCB205 Battery. This ensures efficient power delivery for various tasks.

Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your DEWALT drill. Keep the tool clean and free of debris. Periodically inspect the chuck for wear and ensure the battery contacts are clean. Store the tool and batteries in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your DEWALT drill, refer to the following common troubleshooting tips:
- Tool Not Starting: Ensure the battery is fully charged and properly inserted. Check the forward/reverse switch is not in the lock-off (center) position.
- Battery Not Charging: Verify the charger is properly plugged into a working outlet. Ensure the battery is correctly seated on the charger. Check for any damage to the battery or charger.
- Bit Slipping in Chuck: Ensure the chuck is tightened securely around the drill bit. The ratcheting chuck should click when fully tightened. Check if the drill bit shank is clean and free of oil or debris.
- Reduced Performance: A low battery charge can lead to reduced power. Ensure the battery is fully charged. Overheating can also reduce performance; allow the tool to cool down.
