2. Important Safety Information

Always follow basic safety precautions when using electrical appliances to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury.

  • Ventilation: When operating on propane gas, ensure adequate ventilation. If used in an enclosed and unventilated space, a ventilation kit is required.
  • Gas Pressure: Ensure the gas pressure is 30 mbar when using the gas camping refrigerator.
  • Power Sources: Do not use two types of power sources simultaneously (e.g., AC and Gas).
  • Level Placement: The refrigerator must be placed horizontally. If the tilt angle is greater than 5°, the cooling unit may become blocked and stop cooling. Adjust the feet to ensure the top (bottom) surface is horizontal.
  • Initial Setup: After receiving the refrigerator, place it upright horizontally for 6 hours before connecting it to any power source.
  • Flammable Materials: Do not store explosive substances such as aerosol cans with a flammable propellant in this appliance.
  • Maintenance: Only qualified personnel should perform repairs. Improper repairs can lead to significant hazards.

  • Thermostat & Light: Internal temperature control and LED interior lighting.
  • Adjustable Shelf: Removable shelves for flexible storage.
  • Adjustable Foot: For leveling the unit on uneven surfaces.
  • 12V Cable: For DC power connection.
  • Door Bin: Storage compartment on the inside of the door.
  • Gas Power: Controls for gas operation.

4. Installation and Setup

Proper installation is crucial for the performance and longevity of your refrigerator.

  1. Unpacking and Initial Placement:

Carefully unpack the refrigerator. After unpacking, place the unit upright horizontally for at least 6 hours before plugging it in. This allows the refrigerant to settle properly.

  2. Leveling:

Place the refrigerator on a firm, flat surface. Use the adjustable feet to ensure the unit is perfectly level. A tilt angle greater than 5° can impair cooling performance.

  3. Ventilation (Gas Operation):

If you intend to use the refrigerator with gas in an enclosed space (e.g., RV, camper), ensure there is adequate ventilation. A proper ventilation kit or chimney accessory may be required to safely vent exhaust gases. Contact SMETA for chimney accessory options if needed.

  4. Power Connection:

Before connecting to any power source, ensure the refrigerator has been upright for 6 hours. Test the 220-240V AC connection first. Set the temperature to the lowest setting and connect to 240V. After 6-8 hours, check if the interior is cold and the back is heated. If so, you can then connect to 12V DC or gas.

5. Operating Instructions

Your SMETA refrigerator can operate on three different power sources: AC (220-240V), DC (12V), and Propane Gas.

5.1. General Operation Tips

  • This is an absorption refrigerator, which works differently from compressor refrigerators. It uses a mixture of ammonia, water, and hydrogen for cooling and operates silently.
  • It may take approximately 6 to 8 hours to reach its optimal cooling temperature upon first use.
  • Do not use two power sources simultaneously. Select only one at a time.

5.2. Operating on AC (220-240V)

  1. Ensure the refrigerator is properly leveled.
  2. Plug the AC power cord into a standard 220-240V wall outlet.
  3. Turn the thermostat knob (E) to your desired cooling setting (1-4). Setting 4 is the coldest.

5.3. Operating on DC (12V)

  1. Ensure the refrigerator is properly leveled.
  2. Connect the 12V DC cable to a compatible 12V power source (e.g., vehicle's cigarette lighter socket).
  3. Turn the thermostat knob (E) to your desired cooling setting. Note: The LED light may not turn on when operating on 12V.
  4. Important Note for 12V Wiring: The white wire is typically Earth/Ground, and the black wire is Positive (+). This may be reversed compared to some standard wiring conventions.

5.4. Operating on Propane Gas

  1. Ensure the refrigerator is properly leveled and adequate ventilation is provided.
  2. Connect the refrigerator to a propane gas supply. Ensure the gas pressure is 30 mbar.
  3. Turn the thermostat knob (E) to the desired setting.
  4. Press and hold the Safety Valve Button (D).
  5. While holding the Safety Valve Button, repeatedly press the Battery Ignition (B) until the flame ignites.
  6. Observe the Flame Indicator (C). It should illuminate once the flame is stable. Continue holding the Safety Valve Button for a few more seconds after ignition, then release it slowly.
  7. If the flame does not ignite or goes out, repeat the process. Ensure the gas supply is open and there is no air in the line.
  8. Note: The LED light may not turn on when operating on Gas.

6. Maintenance and Care

Regular maintenance helps ensure optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your refrigerator.

  • Cleaning: Clean the interior and exterior of the refrigerator regularly with a mild detergent and a soft cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Defrosting: This unit features a frost-free defrosting system. However, if ice buildup occurs, manually defrost by turning off the unit and leaving the door open until ice melts.
  • Gas System Check: Periodically check gas connections for leaks. Use a soapy water solution; bubbles indicate a leak.
  • Ventilation Grilles: Keep ventilation grilles clear of obstructions to ensure proper airflow, especially during gas operation.
  • Long-Term Storage: If storing the refrigerator for an extended period, ensure it is clean, dry, and the door is slightly ajar to prevent odors and mold.

7. Troubleshooting

Before contacting customer support, please refer to the following common issues and their solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Refrigerator not cooling or not cold enough.
  • Unit not level (tilt > 5°).
  • Cooling unit clogged.
  • Insufficient power supply (AC/DC).
  • Gas supply issues (empty tank, low pressure, air in line).
  • Heating element failure.
  • First use, not enough time to cool.
  • Ensure the unit is perfectly level using adjustable feet.
  • For clogged cooling unit:
    1. Turn upside down for 8 hours.
    2. Place upright for 8 hours.
    3. Reconnect power.
  • Check power connections and voltage.
  • Check gas tank, ensure 30 mbar pressure, bleed air from line.
  • Replace heating element (professional service recommended).
  • Allow 6-8 hours for initial cooling.
Gas flame does not ignite or goes out.
  • No gas supply or low pressure.
  • Safety valve not held long enough.
  • Air in gas line.
  • Igniter issue.
  • Check gas tank and pressure (30 mbar).
  • Hold safety valve button longer after ignition.
  • Bleed air from the gas line by attempting ignition multiple times.
  • Check battery in battery compartment (A).
LED lights do not turn on.
  • Normal behavior on 12V or Gas mode.
  • Light bulb failure.
  • This is expected for 12V and Gas operation.
  • Replace LED light (included in package).
