2. Important Safety Information

  • Placement: Install smoke alarms on every level of your home, inside each bedroom, and outside each sleeping area.

  • Maintenance: Test the alarm weekly and clean it regularly as instructed in this manual.
  • Alarm Response: If the alarm sounds, evacuate immediately and call emergency services. Do not re-enter the premises until authorities declare it safe.
  • Battery: The S500 model features a sealed 10-year lithium battery. Do not attempt to replace the battery. The entire unit must be replaced after 10 years of operation.

5. Installation

Follow these steps to properly install your AEGISLINK S500 Smoke Alarm:

  1. Choose Location: Select a suitable location on a wall or ceiling, away from corners, vents, and sources of steam or cooking fumes.
  2. Prepare Mounting Bracket: Use the mounting bracket as a template to mark two drill holes on the wall or ceiling.
  3. Drill Holes: Drill holes at the marked positions. Insert the wall plugs if installing into drywall or plaster.
  4. Attach Bracket: Secure the mounting bracket to the wall or ceiling using the provided screws.
  5. Mount Alarm: Align the smoke alarm with the mounting bracket and twist it clockwise until it clicks securely into place.
  6. Test Alarm: Press the Test/Silence button to ensure the alarm is functioning correctly after installation.

6. Operation

Testing the Alarm

It is recommended to test your smoke alarm weekly to ensure proper functionality.

  • Press and hold the Test/Silence button for a few seconds.
  • The alarm will sound a loud siren, and the LED indicator will flash rapidly.
  • Release the button. The alarm will stop sounding.

Silencing Nuisance Alarms

If a non-emergency situation (e.g., cooking fumes) triggers the alarm, you can temporarily silence it:

  • Press the Test/Silence button once.
  • The alarm will enter a temporary silence mode for approximately 9 minutes. The LED will flash every 5 seconds to indicate it is in silence mode.
  • After 9 minutes, if smoke is still present, the alarm will reactivate.

LED Indicator Status

  • Normal Operation: LED flashes once every 60 seconds.
  • Alarming: LED flashes rapidly while the siren sounds.
  • Silence Mode: LED flashes once every 5 seconds.
  • Low Battery Warning: LED flashes once every 60 seconds accompanied by a chirp. This indicates the end of the product's life and requires replacement.
  • Malfunction: LED flashes twice every 40 seconds accompanied by a chirp. This indicates a fault and requires replacement.

7. Maintenance

Cleaning Your Smoke Alarm

Dust and debris can affect the performance of your smoke alarm. Clean it regularly:

  • Gently vacuum the alarm's cover and vents using a soft brush attachment.
  • Do not paint the alarm or use cleaning solvents, as these can damage the sensor.

Battery Life

The AEGISLINK S500 is equipped with a sealed 10-year lithium battery. This battery is designed to power the alarm for its entire operational lifespan. When the battery is low (indicated by a chirp every 60 seconds), the entire unit must be replaced. Do not attempt to replace the internal battery.
