2. Important Safety Information
Always adhere to basic safety precautions when using electrical appliances to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons.
- WARNING: To provide protection against electric shock, connect to properly grounded outlets only.
- This appliance is intended for normal household use only. Do not use for purposes other than its intended use.
- Before servicing or cleaning, switch power off at the service panel and lock the service disconnecting means to prevent power from being switched on accidentally.
- Installation work and electrical wiring must be done by qualified person(s) in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, including fire-rated construction.
- Sufficient air is needed for proper combustion and exhausting of gases through the flue (chimney) of fuel burning equipment to prevent back-drafting. Follow the heating equipment manufacturer's guideline and safety standards such as those published by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and the American Society for Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), and the local code authorities.
- When cutting or drilling into wall or ceiling, do not damage electrical wiring and other hidden utilities.
- Ducted fans must always be vented to the outdoors.
- Do not use this unit with any solid-state speed control device.
- To reduce the risk of fire, use only metal ductwork.
- To reduce the risk of a range top grease fire:
- Never leave surface units unattended at high settings. Boilovers cause smoking and greasy spillovers that may ignite. Heat oils slowly on low or medium settings.
- Always turn hood ON when cooking at high heat or when flambéing food.
- Clean ventilating fans frequently. Grease should not be allowed to accumulate on fan or filter.
- Use proper pan size. Always use cookware appropriate for the size of the surface element.
- In the event of a range top grease fire:
- SMOTHER FLAMES with a close-fitting lid, cookie sheet, or metal tray, then turn off the burner.
- NEVER PICK UP A FLAMING PAN—you may be burned.
- DO NOT USE WATER, including wet dishcloths or towels—a violent steam explosion will result.
- Use an extinguisher ONLY if:
- You know you have a Class ABC extinguisher, and you already know how to operate it.
- The fire is small and contained.
- The fire department is being called.
- You can fight the fire with your back to an exit.

3. Installation Instructions
3.1 Pre-Installation Considerations
Before beginning installation, ensure you have all necessary tools and components. Verify the dimensions of your cabinet enclosure and the range hood to ensure a proper fit. The recommended distance between the cooktop and the range hood is 24 to 36 inches.
- Electrical Requirements: The unit requires 120V/60Hz and comes with a 3-prong plug. Ensure your electrical outlet is properly grounded.
- Ducting: This model is designed for ducted operation with a 5.9-inch round duct. For ductless (recirculating) operation, a carbon filter kit (CFK1-TM, sold separately) is required.

3.2 Mounting the Range Hood
The COS-30IRHP is an insert mount range hood, designed to fit into a custom cabinet. Follow these general steps for mounting:
- Prepare the cabinet opening according to the product dimensions (11.5"D x 27.8"W x 11.4"H).
- Ensure adequate structural support within the cabinet for the hood's weight (approximately 15.9 pounds).
- Route the electrical wiring and ductwork through the cabinet before inserting the hood.
- Carefully lift the range hood into the prepared opening.
- Secure the hood to the cabinet using appropriate fasteners (not included, typically). Refer to the specific mounting points on the hood.

3.3 Ducting Options
The COS-30IRHP can be installed as a ducted or ductless (recirculating) system.
- Ducted Installation: For optimal performance, connect the 5.9-inch round exhaust outlet to rigid metal ductwork that vents directly to the outdoors. Minimize duct length and turns for best airflow.
- Ductless (Recirculating) Installation: If external venting is not possible, install the optional carbon filter kit (CFK1-TM). This kit allows the hood to filter air and recirculate it back into the kitchen. Note that airflow performance may be reduced in recirculating mode.

5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your range hood.
5.1 Cleaning the ARC-FLOW Permanent Filters
The ARC-FLOW Permanent Filters are designed for durability and easy cleaning. They effectively trap grease and can be washed repeatedly.
- Turn off the range hood and disconnect power before cleaning.
- Remove the filters by pulling the spring release latch and gently lowering the filter.
- Clean the filters in a dishwasher or by hand using hot water and a non-abrasive detergent. For stubborn grease, soak the filters before cleaning.
- Allow filters to dry completely before reinstalling.
- Reinstall the filters by aligning them with the slots and pushing them up until the latch clicks into place.

5.2 General Cleaning
Clean the exterior surfaces of the range hood regularly with a clean cloth dampened with warm water and mild soap or a stainless steel cleaner. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, as they can scratch the stainless steel finish.
5.3 LED Light Replacement
The 1.5-Watt LED lights are designed for long life and typically do not require frequent replacement. If a light needs to be replaced, contact COSMO customer support for assistance and genuine replacement parts.
