1. Product Overview
The Basil Adapter Plate Model 70158 is designed to convert any suitable front basket or handlebar bag into a Klickfix-compatible accessory. 2. Setup and Installation
This section provides instructions for installing the Basil Adapter Plate onto your chosen front basket or handlebar bag. A Klickfix handlebar adapter is required and sold separately.
2.1 Required Tools and Materials:
- Basil Adapter Plate (included)
- Klickfix Handlebar Adapter (not included)
- Allen wrench (appropriate size for screws)
- Drill with 5mm drill bit
- File (optional, for refining holes)
- Longer screws (optional, if your bag material is thick)
2.2 Installation Steps:
- Prepare the Adapter Plate: The Basil Adapter Plate consists of an outer plate and an inner plate. Familiarize yourself with these components.
- Mark Drilling Points: Place the outer adapter plate on the desired mounting location on the front of your basket or bag. Ensure it is centered and level. Use a marker to precisely mark the four screw hole positions.
- Drill Holes: Carefully drill 5mm holes at the marked positions. For best results, ensure the holes are clean and symmetrical. A file can be used to refine the holes if necessary.
- Initial Screw Placement: From the inside of your bag or basket, partially insert the screws through the drilled holes.
- Attach Outer Plate: Align the outer adapter plate with the partially inserted screws on the outside of your bag or basket.
- Position Inner Plate: Place the inner Basil plate over the screws on the inside of the bag. Push or slide it into place, ensuring all four screws pass through its corresponding holes.
- Tighten Screws: Using an Allen wrench, gradually tighten the four mounting screws. Tighten each screw a little at a time in a clockwise pattern (e.g., top-left, bottom-right, top-right, bottom-left) to ensure even pressure and a secure fit. Continue until all screws are taut.
- Check for Security: Once tightened, ensure the adapter plate is firmly attached to your bag or basket and does not wobble.

Note: If your bag or basket has a thick material or a plastic insert for shaping, the supplied screws may be too short. In such cases, you may need to acquire longer 5mm Allen bolts. Alternatively, for very thick materials, the inner plate can sometimes be replaced with simple washers, though the inner plate provides better load distribution.
3. Operating Instructions
Once the Basil Adapter Plate is securely installed on your basket or bag, you can easily attach and detach it from any Klickfix handlebar adapter.
3.1 Attaching the Basket/Bag:

- Slide the adapter plate downwards onto the Klickfix adapter until it clicks securely into place. You should hear and feel a positive engagement.

Load Capacity: The maximum recommended load capacity for the Basil Adapter Plate system is 5 kg (approximately 11 lbs). Do not exceed this weight to ensure safe operation and prevent damage to the adapter or your bicycle.
4. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and reliable performance of your Basil Adapter Plate.
- Cleaning: Wipe the adapter plate with a damp cloth to remove dirt and grime. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, which can damage the material.
- Screw Check: Periodically inspect all mounting screws for tightness. If any screws feel loose, retighten them using an Allen wrench. Do not overtighten.
- Adapter Inspection: Check the adapter plate and the Klickfix handlebar adapter for any signs of wear, cracks, or damage. If significant damage is observed, replace the affected component immediately.
- Lubrication: The Klickfix mechanism generally does not require lubrication. If the attachment/detachment feels stiff, ensure no dirt or debris is obstructing the mechanism.
5. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with the Basil Adapter Plate.
5.1 Basket/Bag is Loose or Noisy:
- Check Adapter Plate Screws: Ensure the four screws attaching the Basil Adapter Plate to your basket/bag are fully tightened.
- Check Klickfix Handlebar Mount: Verify that the Klickfix handlebar adapter itself is securely fastened to your bicycle's handlebars. If it can rotate or move, tighten its mounting screws according to the Klickfix adapter's instructions.
- Overload: Ensure the weight in your basket/bag does not exceed the 5 kg load capacity.
5.2 Difficulty Attaching/Detaching:
- Alignment: Ensure the adapter plate is correctly aligned with the Klickfix handlebar adapter before attempting to slide it on.
- Release Button: When detaching, make sure the red release button on the Klickfix adapter is fully pressed.
- Obstructions: Check for any dirt, debris, or foreign objects that might be obstructing the locking mechanism on either the adapter plate or the Klickfix mount.
5.3 Screws Too Short During Installation:
- If your basket or bag material is thicker than anticipated, the included screws may not be long enough to secure both the outer and inner plates.
- Solution: Purchase longer 5mm Allen bolts from a hardware store. Ensure they are of appropriate length to pass through your bag material and securely engage with the inner plate.
