Setup

1. Initial Winding

Your Aquamatic III watch is powered by an automatic mechanical movement. If the watch has stopped, it requires an initial manual wind to start. Unscrew the crown counter-clockwise until it is free from the case (Position 1). Turn the crown clockwise approximately 20-30 times. This will build up enough power reserve to start the watch. The watch will then continue to wind itself through the motion of your wrist while worn.

2. Setting the Time and Date

  1. Unscrew the Crown: Gently unscrew the crown counter-clockwise until it is free (Position 1).
  2. Set the Date: Pull the crown out to the first click (Position 2). Turn the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise to adjust the date. Avoid setting the date between 9 PM and 3 AM, as this can damage the movement. If the current time falls within this window, first advance the time past 3 AM before setting the date.
  3. Set the Time: Pull the crown out to the second click (Position 3). Turn the crown to set the correct time. To ensure accuracy, synchronize with a reliable time source. When setting the time, advance the hands past 12 o'clock to determine if it is AM or PM for the date change.
  4. Secure the Crown: Once the time and date are set, push the crown back into Position 1 and screw it clockwise firmly against the case. This is crucial for maintaining the watch's water resistance.

3. Bracelet Adjustment

For optimal comfort and to ensure the automatic movement receives sufficient motion, the bracelet should fit snugly but not too tightly on your wrist. Adjustments typically involve removing or adding links. It is recommended to have this procedure performed by a qualified watch technician to prevent damage to the bracelet or clasp.

Operating Your Watch

1. Automatic Movement

The Aquamatic III features a self-winding automatic movement. This means the watch is powered by the natural motion of your wrist. When worn regularly (typically 8-12 hours a day), the watch will remain wound. If the watch is not worn for an extended period (e.g., 40 hours or more, depending on the power reserve), it may stop and require manual winding as described in the "Setup" section.

2. Unidirectional Rotating Bezel

The bezel rotates in one direction only (counter-clockwise) to prevent accidental changes that could overestimate elapsed time. To use:

  • Align the triangle marker on the bezel with the minute hand at the start of an event (e.g., a dive, cooking time).
  • The minute hand will then point to the elapsed time on the bezel's scale.

3. Water Resistance (300M / 990FT)

Your watch is rated for 300 meters (990 feet) of water resistance. This rating indicates suitability for professional marine activity and serious surface water sports. It is not suitable for saturation diving. Always ensure the crown is fully screwed down before any contact with water. Do not operate the crown or pushers (if present) while the watch is submerged or wet.

4. Luminescence

The watch utilizes Swiss Superluminova on its hands and markers, providing excellent visibility in low-light conditions. This non-radioactive material charges with exposure to light (natural or artificial) and glows for several hours, with intensity gradually diminishing over time.

Maintenance and Care

1. Cleaning

To clean your watch, wipe it with a soft, damp cloth. For metal bracelets, a soft brush with mild soap and water can be used, ensuring to rinse thoroughly and dry completely. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials, as these can damage the watch's finish or seals.

2. Water Resistance Checks

The gaskets that ensure water resistance can degrade over time. It is recommended to have your watch's water resistance checked annually by an authorized service center, especially if it is frequently exposed to water or extreme temperature changes. Replace gaskets as necessary.

3. Avoid Extreme Conditions

While your watch is robust, avoid exposing it to extreme temperatures (hot tubs, saunas) or sudden temperature changes, as this can compromise the water resistance seals. Also, avoid strong magnetic fields, which can affect the accuracy of the mechanical movement.

4. Servicing

Mechanical watches benefit from periodic servicing to ensure optimal performance and longevity. A full service, including cleaning, lubrication, and adjustment of the movement, is typically recommended every 3-5 years. Contact an authorized MOMENTUM service center for professional servicing.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Watch has stopped or is running intermittently.Insufficient power reserve.Manually wind the watch by unscrewing the crown and turning it clockwise 20-30 times. Wear the watch regularly to keep it wound.
Date changes at noon instead of midnight.Time is set to PM when it should be AM, or vice versa.Pull the crown to Position 3 and advance the time by 12 hours. Reset the time if necessary.
Condensation under the crystal.Compromised water resistance due to impact, aging gaskets, or crown not fully screwed down.Immediately take the watch to an authorized service center. Do not attempt to dry it yourself.
Watch is running too fast or too slow.Movement requires regulation or has been exposed to a strong magnetic field.Contact an authorized service center for regulation or demagnetization.
