Setup
Attaching to Fishing Rod: Securely attach the reel to the reel seat of your fishing rod. Ensure the reel foot is firmly seated and the locking mechanism is tightened to prevent movement during use.
Spooling Fishing Line: Open the bail arm. Thread your fishing line through the rod guides, starting from the tip down to the reel. Tie the line to the reel spool using an arbor knot or similar secure knot. Close the bail arm. Begin winding the line onto the spool, maintaining light tension to ensure even and tight wraps. Fill the spool to approximately 1/8 inch from the rim to prevent line tangles and ensure optimal casting performance.
Baitfeeding System Activation: The reel is equipped with an On/Off auto trip bait feeding system. To engage, locate the lever on the rear of the reel and switch it to the "On" position. This allows the spool to disengage and the bait to run freely, ideal for live bait fishing. To disengage and return to the main drag system, simply turn the reel handle forward.

Operating Instructions
Casting: Hold the rod and reel comfortably. Open the bail arm. Grip the line with your index finger. Bring the rod back over your shoulder, then swiftly cast forward, releasing the line with your finger as the rod reaches the desired angle. Close the bail arm manually or by turning the handle to prepare for retrieve.
Retrieving: Turn the handle to retrieve the line. The Precision Elliptical Gearing System ensures smooth and efficient line retrieval, reducing friction for increased casting distance and accuracy on subsequent casts.
Drag Adjustment: The front drag system allows for precise control over line tension during a fight. Turn the drag knob clockwise to increase tension and counter-clockwise to decrease it. Adjust the drag setting based on the line strength and the size of the fish you are targeting.
Baitfeeding System Usage: When using the baitfeeding system, allow the fish to take the bait without feeling resistance. Once the fish runs, turn the handle forward to automatically disengage the baitfeeding system and engage the main drag, allowing you to fight the fish directly. The Quick Set Anti-Reverse bearing provides instant handle engagement for solid hook-sets.
Maintenance
Proper maintenance will extend the life and performance of your Okuma Ceymar Baitfeeder reel.
Rinsing: After each use, especially in saltwater, rinse the reel thoroughly with fresh water. Do not submerge the reel. Use a soft cloth to wipe away any salt residue or dirt.
Drying: Allow the reel to air dry completely before storage. The Cyclonic Flow Rotor technology aids in faster drying times by increasing airflow, minimizing corrosion.
Lubrication: Periodically apply a small amount of reel oil to moving parts such as the handle knob, bail arm pivot, and line roller. Use reel grease on the main gear and pinion gear (Precision Cut Gearing) if disassembling for deeper cleaning. Refer to a professional for complex internal lubrication.
Storage: Store your reel in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Consider using a reel cover to protect it from dust and scratches.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Line tangles or loops on spool | Over-spooling, loose line, line twist | Remove excess line, re-spool with proper tension, use a swivel to reduce twist. |
| Drag not smooth or slipping | Dirty or worn drag washers, improper adjustment | Clean or replace drag washers, adjust drag correctly. |
| Reel feels rough or grinds | Lack of lubrication, dirt/debris inside, damaged gears/bearings | Clean and lubricate internal components. If problem persists, seek professional service. |
| Baitfeeding system not engaging/disengaging | Lever stuck, internal mechanism issue | Ensure lever moves freely. If not, clean around the lever. If still an issue, professional service may be required. |
