5.2. Network Connection
- Connect your network devices (e.g., NVR, router) to the switch's SFP ports or any of the 8 Gigabit Ethernet ports.
- Connect PoE-compatible devices (e.g., IP cameras, access points) to the PoE ports. Ports 1-4 provide up to 90W (PoE++), while ports 5-8 provide up to 30W (PoE+).
5.3. Mounting the Switch
The switch supports both DIN-Rail and wall mounting. Use the provided accessories for secure installation.
- DIN-Rail Mounting: Attach the DIN-Rail accessory to the back of the switch using the provided screws, then clip the switch onto a standard DIN rail.
- Wall Mounting: Attach the wall mounting brackets to the sides of the switch using the provided screws, then secure the switch to a wall using appropriate fasteners.

6. Operating Instructions
6.1. Basic Operation
The POE-SW508G is an unmanaged switch, meaning it requires no configuration. Simply connect your devices, and it will automatically detect and provide power and data.
6.2. LED Indicators
Monitor the LED indicators on the front panel for operational status:
- PWR X1/X2: Green LED indicates power activity for Power Input 1 or Power Input 2.
- Yellow LED (per port): Indicates network activity (data transmission).
- Green LED (per port): Indicates PoE power delivery.
6.3. PoE Watchdog Functionality
The integrated PoE Watchdog feature continuously monitors the status of connected PoE devices. If a device becomes unresponsive or inactive, the switch will automatically reboot the corresponding PoE port to restore functionality, minimizing downtime.
7. Maintenance
To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your LINOVISION POE-SW508G switch, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: Periodically clean the exterior of the switch with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners. Ensure ventilation openings are free from dust and debris.
- Environmental Conditions: Operate the switch within its specified temperature range of -40°F to +167°F (-40°C to +75°C) and appropriate humidity levels. Avoid exposing the device to direct sunlight, excessive heat, or moisture.
- Cable Management: Ensure all network and power cables are securely connected and properly routed to prevent accidental disconnections or damage.
8. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your LINOVISION POE-SW508G switch, refer to the following troubleshooting tips:
- No Power: Check if the power adapter is securely connected to both the switch and the AC outlet. Verify that the Power LED (PWR X1/X2) is illuminated. If using redundant power, check both power sources.
- No Network Connectivity: Ensure Ethernet cables are properly connected to both the switch and the connected devices. Check the Yellow LED for network activity on the respective port. If the LED is off, try a different cable or port.
- PoE Device Not Powering Up: Verify that the connected device is PoE-compatible. Check the Green LED for PoE power delivery on the respective port. Ensure the total power consumption of all connected PoE devices does not exceed the switch's 120W budget. High-power devices should be connected to ports 1-4 (90W PoE++).
- Intermittent Device Operation: This could indicate an insufficient power budget or voltage drop over long cable runs. Ensure you are using pure copper Ethernet cables (CCA cables can cause voltage drop). Consider the power budget calculation, including cable loss and device overhead, as demonstrated in the video below.
Video: This video explains the engineering behind powering multiple cameras with a single Ethernet cable, including considerations for PoE power budget, cable loss, and device overhead, which are crucial for troubleshooting power-related issues.
