Maintenance
Battery Replacement
When the remote's performance degrades or the indicator light does not illuminate, it is time to replace the batteries. Always replace both AA batteries at the same time with new ones. Do not mix old and new batteries, or different types of batteries.
Cleaning
To clean the remote, wipe it with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these may damage the remote's surface or internal components.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your GE Universal Remote, consider the following common solutions:
- Remote not working: Ensure batteries are correctly installed and not depleted. Replace them if necessary. Make sure you are pointing the remote directly at the device and there are no obstructions.
- Device not responding: Verify that the correct device button (TV, CBL, DVD, AUD) is selected. Re-attempt programming the device using either Automatic Code Search or Direct Code Entry. Try different codes for your brand if using Direct Code Entry.
- Some functions not working: Not all buttons may be compatible with every device. Ensure the remote is programmed with the best possible code for your device. Some advanced functions may require the original device remote.
- Backlight not illuminating: Check battery levels. The backlight will only illuminate when buttons are pressed or the remote is active.
