Abode Multi Sensor Instruction Manual

Model: 104025/B

Product Overview

The Abode Multi Sensor is designed for indoor use to detect motion, light levels, temperature, and humidity. This device enhances home security and automation by providing real-time environmental data and triggering custom actions within your smart home system. It requires an Abode gateway (iota or Smart Security Kit) for operation and is compatible with Apple HomeKit when paired to a HomeKit-compatible Abode gateway.

Key Features:

  • Motion detection for security and smart home automation.
  • Wireless operation with a user-replaceable battery.
  • Live temperature and humidity monitoring via the Abode app.
  • Light level detection to automate lighting based on ambient conditions.
  • Integration with Abode gateway and Apple HomeKit.

Setup

1. Battery Installation

The Abode Multi Sensor uses one CR123A battery (included). To install or replace the battery:

  1. Gently twist the sensor's spherical body counter-clockwise from its base to open it. The surface is smooth, so a firm but careful grip is required.
  2. Insert the CR123A battery, ensuring correct polarity.
  3. Align the sensor body with the base and twist clockwise to secure it.

2. Pairing with Abode Hub

The Multi Sensor must be paired with an Abode gateway (iota or Smart Security Kit) to function.

  1. Open the Abode app on your smartphone or tablet.
  2. Navigate to the device pairing section (refer to your Abode Hub manual for specific instructions).
  3. Follow the on-screen prompts to add a new device. The sensor may require two distinct pairing confirmations to ensure proper functionality.
  4. Once paired, the sensor will appear in your Abode app, displaying its current status and readings.

3. Mounting the Sensor

The sensor can be wall-mounted or placed on a flat surface.

  • Wall Mounting: Use the included mounting hardware to secure the base to a desired wall or ceiling location. The sensor's spherical body attaches magnetically to the base, allowing for easy adjustment of the detection angle.
  • Surface Placement: The sensor can also be placed on a shelf, table, or other flat surface. Ensure it is positioned to cover the desired detection area.

Operating the Sensor

Motion Detection

The sensor detects movement within its field of view. When motion is detected, it can trigger security alarms, activate automations (e.g., turning on lights), or simply log the event in your Abode timeline. The sensor features a red indicator light that illuminates upon motion detection. This light cannot be disabled.

Temperature and Humidity Monitoring

The sensor continuously monitors the ambient temperature and humidity levels. These readings are accessible in real-time through the Abode app, allowing you to track environmental conditions in the sensor's location.

Light Level Detection

The sensor measures ambient light levels. This data can be used to create automations, such as turning on smart lights when the room's brightness falls below a specified lumen threshold.

Abode App Integration

All sensor data and settings are managed through the Abode app. You can view sensor status, create automations, and receive notifications based on detected events.

Maintenance

Battery Replacement

When the battery level is low, you will receive a notification via the Abode app. Replace the CR123A battery as described in the 'Battery Installation' section. The battery is user-replaceable.

Cleaning

To maintain optimal performance, periodically wipe the sensor's exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using liquid cleaners or abrasive materials.

Troubleshooting

Sensor Not Pairing

  • Ensure your Abode Hub is powered on and connected to the internet.
  • Verify the battery is correctly installed and has sufficient charge.
  • Attempt the pairing process again, ensuring you complete both pairing confirmation steps if prompted by the Abode app.
  • Move the sensor closer to the Abode Hub during the pairing process.

Inaccurate Readings or Connectivity Issues

  • Check the sensor's proximity to your Abode Hub. While the sensor has good range, extreme distances or obstructions can affect performance.
  • Ensure there are no major sources of interference (e.g., large metal objects, other wireless devices) near the sensor or hub.
  • Replace the battery if you suspect it is low, even without an explicit notification.

Red Light Flashes on Motion Detection

This is a normal operational characteristic of the Abode Multi Sensor and indicates motion has been detected. This feature cannot be disabled.
