1. Important Safety Instructions

Please read all instructions carefully before using your Mecity toaster and retain them for future reference. Always follow basic safety precautions when using electrical appliances.

• Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
• To protect against electrical shock, do not immerse cord, plugs, or toaster in water or other liquid.
• Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
• Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts.
• Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug, or after the appliance malfunctions or has been damaged in any manner.
• Do not use outdoors.
• Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
• Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.

• Oversize foods, metal foil packages, or utensils must not be inserted in a toaster as they may involve a risk of fire or electric shock.
• A fire may occur if toasters are covered or touching flammable material, including curtains, draperies, walls, and the like, when in operation.
• Do not attempt to dislodge food when toaster is plugged in.
• The slots are hot during toasting; do not touch directly. The exterior of this toaster is designed to remain cool to the touch during operation, enhancing safety.
• Always ensure the crumb tray is properly inserted before use.

3. Setup

1. Unpack: Carefully remove the toaster and all packaging materials.
2. Placement: Place the toaster on a stable, flat, heat-resistant surface, away from flammable materials. Ensure adequate ventilation around the toaster.
3. First Use: Before toasting bread for the first time, operate the toaster without bread on the highest browning setting (6) to burn off any manufacturing residues. A slight odor or smoke may be present; this is normal and will dissipate.
4. Connect Power: Plug the power cord into a standard 120V AC electrical outlet.

4. Operating Instructions

Basic Toasting

1. Insert Bread: Place up to four slices of bread into the toasting slots. For even toasting of 1 or 2 slices, place them in the center of the slots.
2. Select Browning Level: Turn the browning control dial to your desired setting from 1 (lightest) to 6 (darkest). The digital display will show the selected level for 4 seconds.
3. Start Toasting: Press the toasting lever down until it locks into place. The digital display will then show a countdown timer.
4. Finish: Once the toasting cycle is complete, the toast will automatically pop up.

Special Functions

• CANCEL: Press the CANCEL button at any time to stop the toasting cycle and eject the bread.
• REHEAT: This mode will heat your toast for 30 seconds to warm it up without further browning.
• DEFROST: Use this mode to defrost and toast frozen bread in one go. The toasting time will be slightly longer than normal.
• BAGEL: This mode toasts the side of the bagel facing inwards while gently warming the outer side.

Using the Warming Rack

The toaster includes a built-in warming rack for items that cannot be placed directly into the slots, such as croissants or pastries.

1. Locate the lever on the side of the toaster.
2. Push the lever to raise the warming rack above the toasting slots.
3. Place the items you wish to warm on the rack.
4. Select a low browning setting (e.g., 1 or 2) and press the toasting lever down.
5. Once warmed, push the lever back down to retract the rack.

5. Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your toaster.

1. Unplug: Always unplug the toaster from the power outlet and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
2. Crumb Tray:
   • Locate the removable crumb tray at the bottom of the toaster.
   • Push the tray to release it, then pull it out completely.
   • Empty crumbs into a waste bin.
   • Wipe the tray with a damp cloth or wash with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely before reinserting.
   • Slide the crumb tray back into place until it clicks securely.
3. Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the toaster with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or metal scouring pads, as these can scratch the stainless steel finish.
4. Interior: Do not attempt to clean the interior of the toaster with any tools or liquids. If food becomes lodged in the slots, unplug the toaster and carefully remove the food after it has cooled.
5. Storage: When not in use, store the toaster in a clean, dry place. The power cord can be wrapped around the cord storage area on the bottom of the unit.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues with your Mecity toaster, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

• Bread burned even at the lowest setting: This can happen if only one piece of bread is placed in a slot, causing uneven heating. Always place bread in pairs to ensure even toasting.
• Cancel button light is on, and the lever will not stay down: This indicates the Cancel button might be stuck. Ensure the button is not depressed or jammed. Gently try to restore it to its normal position.
• Toaster only toasts one side of the bread: Check if the Bagel mode is activated (its light ring will be on). In Bagel mode, the toaster is designed to toast one side and warm the other. Deactivate Bagel mode for even two-sided toasting.
• Breads are not toasted evenly when toasting 2 slices: When toasting 1 or 2 slices, place them in the center of the slots. The empty slots still generate heat, and placing bread in a corner can lead to uneven results.
• Frozen bread requires more time: If bread slices are stored in the refrigerator or freezer, use the DEFROST mode. This mode adjusts the toasting time to account for the frozen state, ensuring proper browning.
