Setup and Ink Filling
The Hongdian N7 utilizes a piston filling mechanism, designed for use with bottled fountain pen ink. It does not use ink cartridges.
- Prepare the Pen: Unscrew the cap from the pen body. Gently twist the end cap of the pen counter-clockwise until the piston is fully extended towards the nib.
- Submerge the Nib: Dip the entire nib and a portion of the grip section into your chosen bottled fountain pen ink. Ensure the ink covers the breather hole on the nib.
- Fill with Ink: Slowly twist the end cap clockwise. This action will retract the piston, drawing ink into the transparent barrel. Continue until the piston is fully retracted.
- Remove Excess Ink: Carefully remove the pen from the ink bottle. Use a soft, lint-free cloth to wipe any excess ink from the nib and grip section.
- Ensure Ink Flow: For optimal ink flow, twist the end cap counter-clockwise a few turns after filling. This releases a small amount of ink to saturate the feed.

Operating the Pen
The Asvine Hongdian N7 is designed for a smooth writing experience with its fine steel nib. The pen is balanced for comfortable use by both left and right-handed individuals.
- Writing Angle: Hold the pen at a comfortable angle, typically between 40 and 55 degrees relative to the paper surface.
- Pressure: Fountain pens require minimal pressure. Allow the ink to flow naturally from the nib. Excessive pressure can damage the nib.
- Capping: The pen features a screw-type cap. Always screw the cap securely onto the pen when not in use to prevent the nib from drying out.

Maintenance
Regular cleaning ensures consistent ink flow and prevents clogging. The included wrench can be used for deeper cleaning.
- Routine Cleaning: When changing ink colors or if the pen has not been used for a while, flush the pen with clean, cool water. Fill and empty the piston mechanism several times until the water runs clear.
- Deep Cleaning (Nib and Feed Disassembly): If ink flow issues persist, the nib and feed can be carefully removed for a more thorough cleaning. Use the provided wrench to gently unscrew the nib unit from the grip section. Rinse all components under cool water. Allow all parts to dry completely before reassembly.
- Storage: Store the pen capped and upright when not in use, preferably in its metal case, to protect it from damage and prevent ink from drying in the nib.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No ink flow or skipping | Dried ink in nib/feed, low ink level, incorrect ink. | Flush the pen with water. Refill ink. Ensure ink is suitable for fountain pens. Gently twist the end cap a few turns to push ink into the feed. |
| Ink leaks from nib | Loose nib unit, pen dropped, extreme temperature changes. | Ensure nib unit is securely tightened. Avoid dropping the pen. Store at stable room temperature. |
| Piston not drawing ink | Piston seal issue, air trapped. | Ensure nib is fully submerged. Cycle piston slowly. If issue persists, contact support. |
