ORTLIEB Sports Roller City Pannier Bag Instruction Manual

Model: OR-F6206

Introduction

Thank you for choosing the ORTLIEB Sports Roller City Pannier Bag. This lightweight and durable pannier is designed for front or rear racks, especially suitable for bicycles with smaller diameter wheels. Featuring a reliable roll closure system, it offers excellent waterproofing and dust protection for your belongings. This manual provides essential information for the safe and proper use, installation, and maintenance of your pannier bag.

Safety Instructions

  • Always ensure the pannier is securely attached to your bicycle rack before riding. Loose bags can interfere with steering or wheels, leading to accidents.
  • Distribute weight evenly between panniers if using a pair to maintain bicycle balance.
  • Avoid overloading the pannier. Refer to the specifications for maximum load capacity.
  • Be aware of the increased width of your bicycle when panniers are attached, especially when navigating narrow spaces or passing other cyclists.
  • Regularly check the mounting system for wear and tear. Replace worn parts immediately.
  • The bag features reflective elements for increased visibility. Ensure they are clean and unobstructed.

Package Contents

Please verify that all components are present in your package:

  • 1 x ORTLIEB Sports Roller City Pannier Bag (Model OR-F6206)
  • 1 x QL2.1 Mounting System (pre-installed)
  • Mounting hardware and inserts for various rack diameters

Setup: Mounting the QL2.1 System

The ORTLIEB Sports Roller City Pannier Bag is equipped with the Quick-Lock2.1 (QL2.1) mounting system, designed for quick and secure attachment to bicycle racks with tube diameters from 8 mm to 16 mm. Inserts are provided for smaller diameters.

1. Adjusting the Upper Hooks

  1. Identify the two upper hooks on the back of the pannier. These hooks can be moved horizontally to fit your rack's width.
  2. Loosen the screws on the back of the mounting plate that secure the hooks.
  3. Slide the hooks to align with the width of your bicycle rack. Ensure they are positioned symmetrically for balanced weight distribution.
  4. Tighten the screws firmly to secure the hooks in place.

2. Selecting and Installing Inserts (if needed)

  • The QL2.1 hooks come with pre-installed inserts for 16 mm rack tubes. If your rack has a smaller diameter (e.g., 8 mm, 10 mm, 12 mm), select the appropriate inserts.
  • Open the upper hooks by pulling the handle.
  • Snap the correct size inserts into the upper hooks. Ensure they are seated firmly.

3. Adjusting the Lower Hook

  1. The lower hook prevents the bag from swinging. It can be rotated and moved vertically along the rail.
  2. Loosen the screw that secures the lower hook.
  3. Position the hook so it can engage with a vertical strut of your bicycle rack.
  4. Tighten the screw firmly.

4. Attaching to the Bicycle Rack

  1. Lift the pannier by its handle. This action automatically opens the upper QL2.1 hooks.
  2. Place the upper hooks over the top tube of your bicycle rack.
  3. Release the handle. The hooks will close, securing the bag to the rack.
  4. Engage the lower hook with a vertical strut of the rack to prevent movement.
  5. Gently pull on the bag to ensure it is securely attached before riding.

Operating the Pannier Bag

1. Opening and Closing the Roll Closure

The roll closure system provides excellent waterproofing and dust protection.

  • To Open: Unclip the two side buckles. Unroll the top opening of the bag.
  • To Close (Waterproof Seal): After packing, roll the top edge of the bag down at least 3-4 times tightly. Then, bring the two side buckles together and clip them securely. This creates a waterproof and dustproof seal.

2. Packing the Bag

  • Place heavier items at the bottom and closer to the bicycle wheel for better balance.
  • Utilize the interior pocket for small, frequently accessed items like keys, wallet, or phone.
  • Ensure items do not protrude from the top, which could hinder the roll closure.

3. Carrying the Bag

The pannier bag features a shoulder strap for convenient off-bike carrying. Attach the strap to the D-rings located on the top of the bag.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Clean the bag regularly with mild soap and water. Use a soft brush or sponge. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and allow to air dry completely before storage. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Waterproofing: The bag's material and roll closure provide excellent waterproofing. Ensure the roll closure is properly sealed for maximum protection.
  • Storage: Store the bag in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use. Ensure it is clean and dry to prevent mold or mildew.
  • QL2.1 System: Periodically check the QL2.1 hooks and lower locking mechanism for dirt or debris. Clean as needed to ensure smooth operation.

Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Bag feels loose or unstable on the rack. Hooks not properly adjusted or tightened; lower hook not engaged. Ensure upper hooks are adjusted to rack width and screws are tight. Verify the lower hook is engaged with a vertical strut of the rack.
Water inside the bag after rain. Roll closure not sealed correctly. Ensure the top edge is rolled down at least 3-4 times tightly and side buckles are securely clipped. Check for any damage to the bag material.
Difficulty attaching/detaching the bag. Hooks are stiff or dirty; inserts are incorrect size. Clean the QL2.1 hooks. Ensure the correct size inserts are used for your rack diameter. Apply a small amount of silicone spray if hooks are stiff.
