4. Setup and First Use

Follow these steps to prepare your coffee machine for its first use.

1. Unpacking: Remove all packaging materials from the machine. Ensure all components are present.
2. Positioning: Place the machine on a stable, level surface away from water splashes and heat sources.
3. Water Tank: Remove the water tank, rinse it, and fill it with fresh tap water up to the MAX level. Insert it back into the machine.
4. Bean Hopper: Open the bean hopper lid and fill it with fresh coffee beans. Do not use ground coffee in the bean hopper.

5. Operating the Coffee Machine

5.1 Control Panel Overview

• Espresso Button: Brews a single espresso.
• Coffee Button: Brews a standard coffee.

• Dopio+ Button: Brews a double espresso with extra aroma.
• Americano Button: Brews an Americano (espresso with hot water).
• Steam Button: Activates the steam function for frothing milk.
• 2x Button: Brews two cups simultaneously for selected beverages.

5.2 Brewing Coffee

1. Ensure the water tank is filled and the bean hopper contains coffee beans.
2. Place one or two cups under the coffee spouts. Adjust the height of the spouts to fit your cup size.
3. Select your desired beverage (e.g., Espresso, Coffee, Long). For two cups, press the "2x" button before selecting the beverage.
4. The machine will grind the beans and brew the coffee.

5.3 Using Pre-Ground Coffee

If you wish to use pre-ground coffee (e.g., decaffeinated), follow these steps:

1. Press the pre-ground coffee button (usually indicated by a spoon icon).
2. Open the ground coffee funnel lid and add one level scoop of pre-ground coffee. Do not add more than one scoop.
3. Place a cup under the coffee spouts and select your desired beverage.

5.4 Frothing Milk with the Steam Wand

The steam wand allows you to froth milk for cappuccinos and lattes.

1. Fill a milk frothing pitcher with cold milk (dairy or non-dairy).
2. Press the "Steam" button on the control panel. Wait for the machine to reach the correct temperature (indicator light will stop flashing).
3. Immerse the steam wand tip just below the surface of the milk.
4. Turn the steam knob (if present) or press the steam button again to release steam. Move the pitcher up and down to create foam.
5. Once desired foam is achieved, turn off the steam.
6. Important: Immediately clean the steam wand with a damp cloth after use to prevent milk residue from drying. Purge a small amount of steam to clear any internal blockages.

6. Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning and maintenance ensure optimal performance and longevity of your machine.

6.1 Daily Cleaning

• Drip Tray and Coffee Grounds Container: Empty and rinse daily. The machine will prompt you when the grounds container is full.
• Water Tank: Rinse daily and refill with fresh water.
• Coffee Spouts: Wipe with a damp cloth.

6.2 Cleaning the Brew Unit

The brew unit should be rinsed regularly (e.g., weekly) under running water.

1. Turn off the machine and unplug it.
2. Open the service door (usually on the right side of the machine).
3. Press the two red release buttons and pull the brew unit out.
4. Rinse the brew unit thoroughly under tap water. Do not use detergents.
5. Allow it to air dry completely before reinserting.

6.3 Descaling

The machine will indicate when descaling is required. Use only DeLonghi descaling solution.

1. Empty the drip tray and coffee grounds container.
2. Remove the water filter (if installed).
3. Pour the descaling solution into the water tank, diluted as per the descaler instructions, and fill with water up to the indicated level.
4. Place a large container (at least 1.5 liters) under the coffee spouts and steam wand.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions or indicator light sequence to start and complete the descaling cycle. This typically involves several rinse cycles.
6. After descaling, rinse the water tank thoroughly and refill with fresh water. Perform several rinse cycles with fresh water to remove any descaler residue.

6.4 Water Filter Replacement

Replace the water filter approximately every 2 months, or as indicated by the machine.

1. Remove the old filter from the water tank.
2. Immerse the new filter in water until no air bubbles are released.
3. Insert the new filter into its housing in the water tank.
4. Follow the machine's instructions to confirm the filter replacement.
