5. Installation Instructions

Follow these steps carefully to replace your snowblower's carburetor. Refer to your snowblower's original service manual for specific engine component locations if needed.

5.1. Preparation

  1. Ensure the snowblower engine is cool.
  2. Disconnect the spark plug wire.
  3. Turn off the fuel valve (if equipped) and drain the fuel tank into an approved container.
  4. Remove any engine covers or air filter assemblies that obstruct access to the carburetor.

5.2. Removing the Old Carburetor

  1. Carefully disconnect the fuel line from the old carburetor. Be prepared for residual fuel to spill.
  2. Disconnect the throttle linkage and choke linkage from the carburetor. Note their positions for reassembly.
  3. Remove the mounting bolts or nuts that secure the carburetor to the engine.
  4. Gently pull the old carburetor away from the engine, ensuring all gaskets are removed.

  1. Install new gaskets between the engine, carburetor, and air filter housing as required. Ensure they are correctly oriented.
  2. Position the new Owigift carburetor onto the mounting studs/bolts.
  3. Secure the carburetor with the mounting bolts/nuts, tightening them evenly to prevent air leaks.
  4. Reconnect the throttle linkage and choke linkage to their respective points on the new carburetor. Ensure smooth operation of both.
  5. Install the new fuel filter into the fuel line.
  6. Connect the new fuel line to the carburetor's fuel inlet (refer to Figure 5.1). Secure with a clamp if necessary.
  7. Replace the primer bulb if it was part of the kit and the old one was removed.

5.4. Final Steps

  1. Reinstall any removed engine covers or air filter assemblies.
  2. Refill the fuel tank with fresh, clean gasoline.
  3. Reconnect the spark plug wire.

6. Operating Instructions (After Carburetor Replacement)

After installing the new carburetor, follow these steps to start your snowblower:

  1. Open the fuel valve (if equipped).
  2. Prime the engine by pressing the primer bulb 3-5 times, or until fuel is visible in the bulb.
  3. Set the choke to the "FULL CHOKE" position.
  4. Set the throttle to the "FAST" or "RUN" position.
  5. Pull the starter cord firmly or engage the electric starter.
  6. Once the engine starts, gradually move the choke lever to the "RUN" position as the engine warms up.

7. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and performance of your carburetor.

  • Fuel Quality: Always use fresh, clean, unleaded gasoline. Ethanol-free fuel is recommended if available. Store fuel in an approved container.
  • Fuel Filter: Regularly inspect and replace the fuel filter (included in the kit) as part of routine maintenance, typically annually or every 50 hours of operation.
  • Storage: Before long-term storage (e.g., off-season), drain the fuel tank and run the engine until it stops from lack of fuel, or use a fuel stabilizer. This prevents fuel degradation and carburetor clogging.
  • Cleaning: If performance issues arise, the carburetor may require cleaning. This typically involves disassembling the carburetor, cleaning jets and passages with carburetor cleaner, and replacing gaskets. This procedure is advanced and may require professional assistance.

8. Troubleshooting

If your snowblower experiences issues after carburetor replacement, consider the following common problems:

  • Engine won't start:
    • Check fuel level and ensure fuel valve is open.
    • Verify spark plug wire is connected.
    • Ensure choke is in the correct position for starting.
    • Check for proper fuel flow to the carburetor.
    • Confirm primer bulb is functioning and priming the carburetor.
  • Engine runs rough or stalls:
    • Ensure choke is fully off after warm-up.
    • Check for air leaks around carburetor gaskets.
    • Verify fuel quality.
    • Inspect fuel filter for clogs.
  • Fuel leaks:
    • Check all fuel line connections and clamps.
    • Ensure carburetor bowl nut is tight.
    • Inspect gaskets for proper seating and damage.

For persistent issues, consult a qualified small engine mechanic.
