5. Setup

5.1 Unpacking

Carefully remove the subwoofer from its packaging. Retain all packaging materials for future transport or storage.

5.2 Placement

Subwoofer placement significantly impacts sound quality. Experiment with different locations to find the optimal position in your listening area. Generally, placing the subwoofer in a corner can enhance bass output, but may also lead to 'boomy' sound. Placing it along a wall can provide a more balanced response. Consider the following:

  • Room Acoustics: Every room is unique. Bass response will vary depending on room size, shape, and furnishings.
  • Listening Position: The subwoofer should ideally be placed within the front soundstage, near your main speakers.
  • Avoid Obstructions: Ensure the subwoofer is not obstructed by furniture or other objects that could dampen its sound.

5.3 Connections

Before making any connections, ensure the subwoofer and all connected audio components are powered off.

  • LFE Input (Low-Frequency Effects): For receivers or processors with a dedicated Subwoofer/LFE output, connect a single RCA cable from the LFE output of your receiver to the LFE input on the subwoofer. This is the recommended connection for home theater systems.
  • Low-Level Inputs (RCA): If your receiver does not have an LFE output, use the left and right RCA inputs. Connect RCA cables from the pre-out/subwoofer output of your receiver to these inputs.
  • High-Level Inputs: For receivers without dedicated subwoofer outputs or pre-outs, connect speaker wires from your receiver's main speaker outputs to the high-level inputs on the subwoofer. Then, connect speaker wires from the subwoofer's high-level outputs to your main speakers.
  • Balanced Input (XLR): For professional audio equipment or receivers with balanced outputs, use an XLR cable to connect to the balanced input.
  • Power Connection: After all audio connections are made, connect the supplied power cord to the subwoofer's AC inlet and then to a suitable wall outlet. Ensure the voltage selector switch is set correctly for your region.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Power On/Off

The subwoofer features a power switch and a power mode selector.

  • ON: The subwoofer is continuously powered on.
  • AUTO: The subwoofer will automatically turn on when an audio signal is detected and enter standby mode after a period of inactivity.
  • OFF: The subwoofer is powered off.

6.2 Controls

  • Volume: Adjusts the overall output level of the subwoofer. Start with a low setting and gradually increase until the bass blends seamlessly with your main speakers.
  • Crossover: This control sets the upper frequency limit for the subwoofer. Frequencies above this setting will be rolled off. Adjust this to match the low-frequency capabilities of your main speakers. A common starting point is 80Hz. If your receiver has a built-in bass management system, set the subwoofer's crossover to its maximum (LFE) and manage the crossover through your receiver.
  • Phase: This switch (0°/180°) helps to integrate the subwoofer's output with your main speakers. If the bass sounds weak or hollow, try flipping the phase switch. The correct setting will result in the most impactful and coherent bass.

6.3 App Control (Bluetooth)

The Trevoce 15 subwoofer supports control via a dedicated application using Bluetooth wireless communication technology. Refer to the app's instructions for detailed guidance on fine-tuning settings such as volume, crossover, and phase from your mobile device.

7. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your subwoofer, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the cabinet. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, waxes, or solvents.
  • Dust: Regularly dust the subwoofer to prevent accumulation, especially around the drivers and ventilation areas.
  • Environment: Keep the subwoofer in a stable environment, away from extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, and high humidity.
