5. Safety Precautions
Please read and understand these safety precautions before operating the iFlight BLITZ 5.8GHz 1.6W VTX to prevent injury or damage:
- Power Supply: Ensure the VTX is connected to a power source within its specified voltage range (typically 7-26V, 2-6S LiPo). Incorrect voltage can damage the unit.
- Antenna Connection: Always connect the antenna before powering on the VTX. Operating without an antenna can cause permanent damage to the VTX.
- Heat Management: The VTX can generate significant heat, especially at higher power settings. Ensure adequate airflow and avoid enclosing it in tight spaces without ventilation. The CNC aluminum alloy heat sink aids in cooling, but proper installation is crucial.
- Frequency Regulations: Adhere to local laws and regulations regarding FPV transmission frequencies and power levels. Operating outside these regulations may be illegal.
- Wiring: Double-check all wiring connections before applying power. Incorrect wiring can lead to short circuits and damage to the VTX or other components.
- Children: Keep the VTX and related components out of reach of children.
6. Setup and Installation
Follow these steps for proper setup and installation of your iFlight BLITZ 5.8GHz 1.6W VTX:
6.1 Physical Installation
- Mounting: Secure the VTX to your drone frame using the 30.5mm x 30.5mm mounting holes. Ensure it is positioned to allow for good airflow and antenna placement.
- Antenna Connection: Carefully connect your 5.8GHz FPV antenna to the MMCX connector on the VTX. Ensure a firm connection.

The VTX features a CNC aluminum alloy heat sink and M3 screw fixing holes for easy installation.
6.2 Wiring Diagram
The VTX features a convenient socket design for wiring. Refer to the diagram below for connecting the VTX to your flight controller or directly to the battery and camera.

6.3 Betaflight Configuration (SmartAudio)
The iFlight BLITZ VTX supports the IRC Tramp protocol (often referred to as SmartAudio in Betaflight) for remote control of VTX settings. To enable this:
- Connect your flight controller to Betaflight Configurator.
- Navigate to the Ports tab.
- Identify the UART to which the VTX's SmartAudio (or IRC Tramp) wire is connected.
- For that UART, select IRC Tramp under the Peripherals column.
- Click Save and Reboot.
- After reboot, go to the Video Transmitter tab (or OSD tab for VTX settings via OSD) to configure bands, channels, and power levels.
7. Operating Instructions
The VTX can be operated via physical buttons or through SmartAudio/IRC Tramp protocol via your flight controller and OSD/remote control.
7.1 Manual Operation (Buttons)
The VTX features individual buttons for power, band, and channel selection, indicated by LED lights.

Individual Power and Frequency Band & Channel buttons for convenient switching.

LED indicator lights show current power and frequency point changes, providing simple and clear status.
- Power Button (PWR): Short press to cycle through power levels (25mW, 400mW, 800mW, 1600mW).
- Band Button (BAND): Short press to cycle through frequency bands (A, B, E, F, R).
- Channel Button (CH): Short press to cycle through channels within the selected band.
- Lock/Unlock: Some VTXs have a lock feature to prevent accidental changes. Refer to the specific product's quick start guide for details on unlocking if necessary.
Note: 5645, 5925, 5945 (E4, E7, E8) channels may not be available due to FCC regulations.
7.2 SmartAudio/IRC Tramp Operation
Once configured in Betaflight, you can change VTX settings using your OSD (On-Screen Display) menu via your FPV goggles or monitor, or through your remote control if it supports VTX control via the flight controller.
- Access the OSD menu (usually by specific stick commands on your remote, e.g., throttle down, yaw left, pitch forward).
- Navigate to the VTX settings.
- Select your desired Band, Channel, and Power level.
- Save the settings.
8. Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your iFlight BLITZ 5.8GHz 1.6W VTX, consider the following maintenance tips:
- Keep Clean: Regularly clean the VTX and its connectors to prevent dust and debris buildup. Use a soft, dry brush or compressed air.
- Inspect Connections: Periodically check all wiring and antenna connections for looseness or damage. Secure any loose connections.
- Avoid Overheating: Ensure the VTX has adequate cooling during operation. Avoid prolonged use at maximum power in static conditions without airflow.
- Storage: Store the VTX in a dry, cool environment away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Firmware Updates: Check the iFlight website for any available firmware updates for your VTX, as these can improve performance and add features.
9. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your iFlight BLITZ 5.8GHz 1.6W VTX, try the following troubleshooting steps:
- No Video Signal:
- Check all wiring connections between the VTX, camera, and flight controller.
- Ensure the antenna is securely connected to the VTX.
- Verify that your FPV goggles/monitor are on the correct band and channel.
- Confirm the VTX is receiving power.
- Poor Video Quality/Static:
- Check for interference from other electronic components on the drone.
- Ensure the VTX antenna is not obstructed and is positioned for optimal signal.
- Try a different channel or band, especially if flying with others.
- Increase the VTX power output (if legally permitted and within safe operating temperatures).
- Inspect the antenna for damage.
- VTX Overheating:
- Ensure adequate airflow around the VTX.
- Reduce the VTX power output if not needed for your flying environment.
- Avoid powering the VTX for extended periods without active cooling (e.g., on the bench without props spinning).
- Cannot Change Settings via SmartAudio:
- Verify that IRC Tramp is enabled on the correct UART in Betaflight (see Section 6.3).
- Check the wiring of the SmartAudio/IRC Tramp line from the VTX to the flight controller.
- Ensure your flight controller firmware and Betaflight Configurator are up to date.
