Safety Information

Please read and understand all safety instructions before operating your carbon monoxide detector. Failure to follow these instructions may result in property damage, injury, or death.

  • Placement: Install the detector in areas where CO is likely to accumulate, such as near fuel-burning appliances, but not directly above them. Avoid placing it in dead air spaces or behind curtains.
  • Power Source: Ensure the detector is plugged into a functional AC outlet. Do not use extension cords or power strips.
  • Alarm Response: If the alarm sounds, immediately move to fresh air outdoors or open doors/windows to ventilate the area. Call emergency services (e.g., 911 or your local gas company) if symptoms persist or the alarm continues.
  • Regular Testing: Test the detector weekly to ensure proper operation.
  • Do Not Paint: Do not paint the detector as it may interfere with the sensor's operation.
  • Not a Smoke Detector: This device is a carbon monoxide detector and does not detect smoke or fire.

Setup and Installation

The KOABBIT Carbon Monoxide Detector is designed for simple plug-and-play installation.

  1. Unpack: Carefully remove the detector from its packaging.
  2. Choose Location: Select a suitable location for installation.
    • Near sleeping areas and on every level of your home.
    • Within 5-20 feet of fuel-burning appliances.
    • At least 15 feet away from cooking appliances to avoid false alarms from cooking fumes.
    • Plug into a standard AC wall outlet. The plug can rotate freely for convenience.
  3. Avoid: Do not install in garages, dusty areas, or areas with high humidity. Avoid direct sunlight or areas near vents that could interfere with readings.
  4. Plug In: Insert the detector directly into a standard 120V AC wall outlet. The unit will power on and begin its self-test sequence.

Operating Instructions

Power On and Self-Test

Upon plugging in the detector, it will perform a self-test. The digital display will show a countdown (e.g., "9999" decreasing) and the Power, Fault, and Alarm lights will cycle. Once the self-test is complete, the Power light will remain green, and the display will show "0000" indicating normal operation.

Normal Operation

In normal operation, the green Power light will be on, and the digital display will show "0000" PPM (parts per million) if no carbon monoxide is detected. The detector continuously monitors the CO levels in the air.

Alarm Conditions and Response

The detector is programmed to alarm at specific CO concentrations and exposure times:

CO Concentration (PPM)Alarm Time
50 PPM60-90 minutes
100 PPM10-40 minutes
≥150 PPMWithin 3 seconds

When an alarm condition is met, the detector will:

  • Emit a loud audible alarm (>85 dB).
  • The red Alarm light will flash.
  • The digital display will show the detected CO concentration.

If the alarm sounds:

  1. Immediately move to fresh air outdoors or open all doors and windows to ventilate the area.
  2. Do a head count to check that all persons are accounted for.
  3. Do not re-enter the premises until the CO has dissipated and the alarm has stopped.
  4. Call emergency services or your gas company if the alarm continues or symptoms persist.

Maintenance

Testing the Detector

It is recommended to test your CO detector weekly to ensure it is functioning correctly.

  1. Press and hold the "SELF-TEST" button on the front of the detector.
  2. The unit will initiate a self-test sequence, including an audible alarm and display changes.
  3. Release the button once the test is complete. If the alarm sounds and the lights function as described, the unit is working properly.

Cleaning

Clean the detector regularly to prevent dust and debris from affecting its performance.

  • Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe the exterior of the detector.
  • Do not use cleaning solvents or harsh chemicals.
  • Do not spray cleaning agents directly onto the detector.
  • Gently vacuum around the air inlets to remove any accumulated dust.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Detector not powering on.No power from outlet.Check the outlet with another appliance. Ensure the outlet is live.
Fault light (yellow) is on.Internal malfunction.Unplug the unit for 30 seconds and plug it back in. If the fault persists, the unit may need replacement.
Alarm sounds frequently without apparent CO.False alarm due to fumes (e.g., cooking, cleaning products) or sensor sensitivity.Ventilate the area. Relocate the detector further from sources of fumes. Ensure proper ventilation in the room.
Digital display shows "Err" or other error codes.Sensor error or internal fault.Unplug and re-plug the unit. If the error persists, contact customer support or consider replacing the unit.
