4. Setup and Installation

4.1 Plasma Torch Consumables (PT-31, JG-40, WSD-LG40)

Proper installation of plasma torch consumables is crucial for efficient cutting and to prolong the life of the parts. Follow these steps:

  1. Ensure the plasma cutter is powered off and disconnected from the power source.
  2. Remove the old shielded cup by unscrewing it.
  3. Carefully remove the old tip, electrode, and gas ring.
  4. Insert the new gas ring, followed by the new extended electrode.
  5. Place the new extended tip over the electrode.
  6. Screw on the new shielded cup until it is finger-tight. Do not overtighten.

4.2 MIG Welding Torch Consumables (AK15 / MB-15)

To replace MIG welding torch consumables, follow these steps:

  1. Ensure the MIG welder is powered off and disconnected from the power source.
  2. Unscrew and remove the old gas nozzle.
  3. Unscrew and remove the old contact tip.
  4. Screw in the new contact tip (either 0.8mm or 1.0mm, depending on your wire size) until it is secure.
  5. Screw on the new gas nozzle until it is finger-tight.

5. Operating Tips

To achieve optimal performance and extend the life of your consumables:

  • Correct Amperage: Always use the appropriate amperage settings for the material thickness and type you are cutting or welding.
  • Proper Air Pressure (Plasma): Maintain the recommended air pressure (typically 50-60 PSI for PT-31 torches) for clean cuts and efficient operation.
  • Torch Angle: Hold the torch at the correct angle (usually perpendicular to the workpiece) for best results.
  • Travel Speed: Adjust your travel speed to ensure a complete and clean cut or a consistent weld bead.
  • Regular Inspection: Inspect consumables before each use for wear, damage, or debris. Replace any compromised parts promptly.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance of your consumables will ensure consistent performance and extend their lifespan:

  • Cleanliness: Keep all consumable parts clean and free from slag, spatter, and debris. Use a wire brush or appropriate cleaning tool.
  • Inspection: Before each use, inspect tips, electrodes, shielded cups, gas rings, and nozzles for signs of wear, pitting, or damage. Replace any compromised parts immediately.
  • Storage: Store unused consumables in a dry, clean environment to prevent corrosion and damage.

7. Troubleshooting Common Issues

If you encounter issues during operation, consider the following:

  • Poor Cut Quality (Plasma):
    • Check for worn or damaged tips/electrodes.
    • Verify correct air pressure and flow.
    • Ensure proper torch height and travel speed.
  • Inconsistent Arc (MIG):
    • Inspect contact tip for blockage or wear.
    • Ensure gas nozzle is clean and free of spatter.
    • Check for proper wire feed speed and voltage settings on your welder.
  • Short Consumable Life:
    • Ensure correct amperage and voltage settings are used.
    • Avoid dragging the plasma torch tip on the workpiece excessively.
    • Maintain proper gas flow and cleanliness.
