1. Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the safe and effective use of your Topsung FRS Two-Way Radios. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the devices to ensure optimal performance and longevity. 3. Product Overview

The Topsung FRS Two-Way Radios are designed for ease of use and durability. Each unit features a compact design with robust ABS material for drop protection. Key components include an antenna, volume knob, backlit LCD display, PTT button, Call/Lock button, NOAA/Scan button, Menu/Power button, Up/Down buttons, microphone, and speaker.

4. Setup and Installation

4.1. Battery Installation

  1. Ensure the walkie talkie is powered off.
  2. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the unit.
  3. Push the clip upwards to release the cover and remove it.
  4. Connect the battery's small plug to the corresponding socket inside the compartment.
  5. Insert the 1800mAh Lithium Polymer battery into the compartment, ensuring proper orientation.
  6. Replace the battery compartment cover and push the clip downwards until it locks securely.

4.2. Charging the Batteries

The walkie talkies come with a 3-in-1 USB charging cable, allowing simultaneous charging of multiple units. A full charge takes approximately 3 hours and provides up to 72 hours of standby time.

  1. Connect the USB-A end of the charging cable to a USB power adapter (included) or a compatible USB port (e.g., PC, car charger, power bank).
  2. Plug the small charging connectors into the charging port located on the side of each walkie talkie (under the rubber flap).
  3. The charging indicator on the walkie talkie's screen will show charging status.
  4. Once fully charged, disconnect the cable.

4.3. Attaching Lanyards and Belt Clips

For convenient carrying, attach the provided lanyards or belt clips.

5. Basic Operation

5.1. Power On/Off and Volume

5.2. Channel Selection

The radios operate on 22 FRS (Family Radio Service) channels. All radios in your group must be on the same channel and privacy code to communicate.

  1. Press the MENU button once. The channel number will flash on the LCD screen.
  2. Use the Up or Down arrow buttons to select your desired channel (1-22).
  3. Press PTT (Push-To-Talk) button to confirm and save the channel.

6.1. Privacy Codes (CTCSS/DCS)

Each of the 22 channels can be combined with 121 privacy codes (38 CTCSS and 83 DCS codes) to minimize interference from other users. This ensures clearer communication within your group.

  1. Press the MENU button twice. The privacy code will flash.
  2. Use the Up or Down arrow buttons to select your desired privacy code (01-121).
  3. Press PTT to confirm and save the code.

6.2. NOAA Weather Alert

Stay informed about weather conditions with integrated NOAA Weather Alerts. This feature allows you to receive real-time weather broadcasts and emergency alerts.

6.3. iVOX (Voice-Activated Transmission)

The iVOX feature enables hands-free communication, allowing you to transmit by speaking into the microphone without pressing the PTT button. This is ideal for activities where your hands are occupied.

  1. Press the MENU button multiple times until "VOX" appears on the screen.
  2. Use the Up or Down arrow buttons to select the sensitivity level (1-3, with 3 being most sensitive) or "OF" to turn off iVOX.
  3. Press PTT to confirm.

To prevent accidental changes to settings, you can lock the keypad.

A built-in flashlight is located at the top of the radio for convenience in low-light conditions.

7. Range and Performance

The effective communication range of your walkie talkies can vary significantly based on terrain, obstructions, and atmospheric conditions. The stated maximum range of 5 miles is achievable under ideal conditions (e.g., clear line of sight, open water).

For optimal range, ensure a clear line of sight between radios. Obstacles like buildings, dense foliage, and metal structures can significantly reduce transmission distance.
