5. Setup

5.1 Hard Drive Installation (HDD Not Included)

The NVR requires a hard drive for video recording. Please purchase a compatible 3.5-inch SATA hard drive separately.

  1. Unscrew and remove the top cover of the NVR.
  2. Connect the SATA data cable and power cable from the NVR to the hard drive.
  3. Secure the hard drive to the NVR chassis using the provided screws.
  4. Replace the top cover and secure it with screws.

5.2 Connecting Cameras

This NVR supports Power over Ethernet (PoE) cameras. Connect your IP cameras directly to the PoE interfaces (ports 1-4) on the rear panel using standard Ethernet cables. The NVR will provide power and data connectivity.

Image 5.1: Camera Wiring Compatibility. This image illustrates the correct and incorrect methods for connecting cameras to the NVR. A standard network cable (RJ45) is compatible for PoE cameras, providing both video and power. Traditional DC power and BNC video cables are not compatible with this NVR's PoE inputs.

5.3 Connecting to a Display

Connect a monitor to the NVR using either the HDMI or VGA port on the rear panel.

  • For high-resolution output, use an HDMI cable.
  • For standard resolution, a VGA cable can be used.

5.4 Network Connection

Connect the NVR to your local network (router/switch) using an Ethernet cable plugged into the LAN interface on the rear panel. This enables remote access and network functionalities.

5.5 Powering On

After all connections are made:

  1. Connect the power adapter to the NVR's power input (48V).
  2. Plug the power adapter into a power outlet.
  3. Flip the power switch on the rear panel to the 'ON' position.
  4. The NVR will boot up, and the POWER indicator light on the front panel will illuminate.

5.6 Initial Configuration

Upon the first boot, the NVR will typically launch a setup wizard. Follow the on-screen prompts to:

  • Set up a strong administrator password.
  • Configure network settings (DHCP is usually default).
  • Initialize the installed hard drive for recording.
  • Search for and add connected IP cameras.

6. Operating

6.1 Basic Navigation

Use the included USB mouse or the front panel joystick and buttons to navigate the NVR's graphical user interface (GUI).

  • Mouse: Left-click to select, right-click to open context menus or return to the previous screen.
  • Front Panel: Use the directional buttons for navigation and the 'MENU' or 'EDIT' buttons for selection/confirmation.

6.2 Live View

After logging in, the NVR will display the live view of connected cameras. You can switch between single-camera view, multi-camera grid view, and customize display layouts.

6.3 Recording Settings

Access the 'Record' menu to configure recording schedules, motion detection settings, and continuous recording options for each camera. Ensure the hard drive is initialized before setting up recordings.

6.4 Playback

To review recorded footage:

  1. Go to the 'Playback' menu.
  2. Select the desired camera(s) and date/time range.
  3. Use the playback controls (play, pause, fast forward, rewind) to navigate through the footage.

6.5 Backup

You can back up recorded video clips to a USB flash drive or external hard drive connected to the NVR's USB port. Navigate to the 'Backup' menu, select the desired footage, and follow the prompts.

6.6 Remote Access

For remote viewing and management, install the manufacturer's client software on your computer or the mobile application on your smartphone. Ensure the NVR is connected to the internet and configured for remote access (e.g., port forwarding or P2P cloud service).

7. Maintenance

  • Regular Cleaning: Keep the NVR free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners.
  • Firmware Updates: Periodically check the manufacturer's website for firmware updates. Updating firmware can improve performance and add new features. Follow update instructions carefully.
  • Hard Drive Health: Monitor the health of your hard drive through the NVR's system settings. Replace the hard drive if errors are detected to prevent data loss.
  • Password Security: Regularly change your NVR's administrator password and use strong, unique passwords for all user accounts.

8. Troubleshooting

8.1 No Video Output on Monitor

  • Check if the NVR is powered on and the power indicator light is solid.
  • Verify that the HDMI/VGA cable is securely connected to both the NVR and the monitor.
  • Ensure the monitor is set to the correct input source (HDMI/VGA).
  • Try a different HDMI/VGA cable or monitor.

8.2 Cameras Not Displaying

  • Check if the cameras are properly connected to the NVR's PoE ports.
  • Verify that the Ethernet cables are functional.
  • Ensure the cameras are powered on (PoE should provide power).
  • In the NVR's camera management settings, check if the cameras are detected and added. You may need to manually search for and add them.

8.3 No Recording

  • Confirm that a hard drive is installed and properly connected.
  • Check the NVR's system settings to ensure the hard drive is initialized and its status is normal.
  • Verify that recording schedules are configured correctly for the desired cameras.
  • Check for any hard drive errors or full capacity.

8.4 Remote Access Issues

  • Ensure the NVR is connected to the internet via the LAN port.
  • Verify network settings (IP address, gateway, DNS) are correct.
  • Check if port forwarding is correctly configured on your router, or if the P2P cloud service is enabled and connected.
  • Ensure the client software or mobile app is updated to the latest version.
