Note: If the LED is red after relocation, move the extender closer to the host router.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Connecting Devices
Once the extender is successfully set up, devices can connect to the extended Wi-Fi network using the same network name (SSID) and password as your main router, or a new SSID if you configured one during setup.
- Wireless Devices: Connect smartphones, tablets, laptops, and other Wi-Fi enabled devices to the extended network.
- Wired Devices: Use an Ethernet cable to connect devices like smart TVs, game consoles, or desktop PCs to the extender's Ethernet port for a stable wired connection.
4.2 Understanding the Signal Indicator
The multicolor LED on the front of the extender helps you determine the optimal placement for the best Wi-Fi extension.
- Solid Green: Indicates a strong signal from the host router. This is the ideal placement.
- Solid Orange: Indicates a moderate signal from the host router. The extender is functioning, but a stronger signal might be achievable by adjusting its position.
- Solid Red: Indicates a weak signal from the host router. Move the extender closer to your host router.
5. Maintenance
5.1 General Care
- Keep the device in a dry environment, away from water and excessive humidity.
- Avoid exposing the device to extreme temperatures.
- Ensure proper ventilation; do not block the ventilation holes.
- Clean the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols.
5.2 Firmware Updates
Periodically check the Mercusys official website for firmware updates. Updating the firmware can improve performance, add new features, and fix bugs. Refer to the Mercusys support page for specific instructions on how to update your ME20's firmware.
6. Troubleshooting
6.1 No Internet Access After Connecting to Extender
- Check Host Router: Ensure your main router has internet access.
- Extender Placement: Verify the extender's LED is solid green or orange. If red, relocate it closer to the host router.
- Reboot: Try rebooting both your host router and the extender.
- Reconfigure: If issues persist, try reconfiguring the extender using either the WPS button or web browser method.
6.2 Slow Speed on Extended Network
- Extender Placement: The extender might be too far from the host router. Relocate it to a position where the LED is solid green.
- Interference: Reduce interference from other electronic devices (e.g., microwaves, cordless phones) by moving the extender or the interfering devices.
- Network Congestion: Too many devices on the network can cause slowdowns.
6.3 How to Reset the Extender
To restore the extender to factory default settings, press and hold the WPS/Reset button for approximately 5 seconds until the LED flashes rapidly. Release the button and wait for the extender to restart.
