Introduction
This instruction manual provides essential information for the safe and effective operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your TOTAL P20S 20V Cordless Electric Hedge Trimmer. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the tool to ensure proper handling and to prevent injury or damage. Keep this manual for future reference.
Safety Instructions
Always observe basic safety precautions to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury.
General Safety
- Work Area Safety: Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
- Electrical Safety: Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges, and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
- Personal Safety: Stay alert, watch what you are doing, and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.
- Use Personal Protective Equipment: Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
Hedge Trimmer Specific Safety
- Keep hands away from blades. Do not attempt to remove cut material or hold material to be cut when blades are moving. Make sure the switch is off when clearing jammed material.
- Carry the hedge trimmer by the handle with the cutting blade stopped. When transporting or storing the hedge trimmer, always fit the blade cover. Proper handling of the hedge trimmer will reduce possible personal injury from the blades.
- Hold the power tool by insulated gripping surfaces only, because the cutter blade may contact hidden wiring or its own cord. A cutter blade contacting a "live" wire may make exposed metal parts of the power tool "live" and could give the operator an electric shock.
- Do not use the hedge trimmer in bad weather conditions, especially when there is a risk of lightning.

2. Blade Cover Removal

Operating Instructions
1. Pre-Operation Check
- Ensure the battery is fully charged and securely installed.
- Inspect the cutting blade for any damage, dullness, or debris.
- Clear the work area of any obstacles, wires, or foreign objects that could interfere with the blades.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, and sturdy footwear.
2. Starting and Stopping
- To Start: Hold the hedge trimmer firmly with both hands. Simultaneously press the safety switch (usually on the front handle or top of the rear handle) and squeeze the main trigger on the rear handle. The blades will begin to move.
- To Stop: Release the main trigger. The blades will stop. Always ensure the blades have come to a complete stop before setting the tool down.
3. Cutting Techniques
For best results and safety, use the following techniques:
- Sweeping Motion: Use a wide, sweeping motion to cut hedges. Move the trimmer steadily along the hedge, allowing the blades to cut through the branches.
- Top Trimming: For flat tops, hold the trimmer slightly tilted (5-10 degrees) to ensure a clean, even cut and prevent the blades from getting stuck.
- Side Trimming: Cut from the bottom upwards, allowing the clippings to fall away from the cutting area.
- Avoid Overloading: Do not force the trimmer through thick branches. The maximum cutting capacity is 19mm. For thicker branches, use appropriate pruning shears or saws.

Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your hedge trimmer.
1. Cleaning
- After each use, disconnect the battery.
- Use a stiff brush or cloth to remove debris, sap, and leaves from the blades and housing.
- Do not use water or harsh chemicals to clean the tool.
2. Blade Care
- Lubrication: Apply a light machine oil or blade lubricant to the cutting blades after each use to prevent rust and ensure smooth operation.
- Sharpening: If the blades become dull, they can be sharpened by a qualified service technician. Dull blades can cause the motor to work harder and reduce cutting efficiency.
- Inspection: Regularly check the blades for any signs of damage, bending, or cracks. Replace damaged blades immediately.

- Store the tool in a dry, secure place, out of reach of children and away from direct sunlight or extreme temperatures.
