6. Setup and Installation

This section outlines the general steps for replacing a refrigerator ice maker. Specific steps may vary slightly depending on your refrigerator model. Refer to your refrigerator's original service manual for detailed instructions if available.

  1. Disconnect Power: Unplug the refrigerator from the wall outlet.
  2. Turn Off Water Supply: Locate and turn off the water supply valve to the refrigerator. This is usually located behind the refrigerator or under the sink.
  3. Access Old Ice Maker: Open the freezer door. The ice maker is typically located in the upper left corner of the freezer compartment. You may need to remove the ice bucket first.
  4. Disconnect Old Ice Maker:
    • Carefully disconnect the electrical wire harness from the old ice maker.
    • Unscrew any mounting screws holding the ice maker in place. There are usually 2-3 screws.
    • Gently pull the old ice maker assembly out of its position.
  5. Install New Ice Maker:
    • Align the new Owigift ice maker assembly with the mounting brackets inside the freezer.
    • Secure the new ice maker with the mounting screws. Ensure it is firmly in place.
    • Connect the electrical wire harness to the new ice maker. Ensure the connection is secure.
  6. Restore Water and Power:
    • Turn the water supply valve back on.
    • Plug the refrigerator back into the wall outlet.
  7. Initial Operation: Allow several hours for the ice maker to cool down and begin producing ice. The first few batches of ice may be smaller or irregular; discard them.

7. Operation

Once installed and connected, the ice maker operates automatically to produce ice. The metal shut-off arm controls ice production.

  • Automatic Operation: The ice maker will cycle automatically to fill the ice bucket. When the ice bucket is full, the shut-off arm will be pushed up by the ice, stopping production. As ice is used, the arm will drop, and production will resume.
  • Manual ON/OFF Switch: Some models of this ice maker may feature a manual ON/OFF switch (refer to Figure 2.3). This switch allows you to temporarily stop ice production without disconnecting the power or water. Set to "OFF" to stop, "ON" to resume.
  • First Ice Production: It may take 12-24 hours for the ice maker to produce its first full batch of ice after installation or a power outage.

8. Maintenance

Regular maintenance helps ensure optimal performance and longevity of your ice maker.

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean the ice bucket with mild soap and warm water. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely before returning it to the freezer. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
  • Water Filter: Ensure your refrigerator's water filter is replaced regularly according to the manufacturer's recommendations. A clogged filter can affect ice production and quality.
  • Clear Ice Chute: If your refrigerator has an ice dispenser, periodically check and clear any ice buildup in the ice chute.
  • Inspect Water Line: Occasionally inspect the water supply line for kinks or leaks.
