1. Introduction

This product is designed as a replacement part compatible with Kenmore 385.15208400 Sewing Machines and similar models that utilize a snap-on presser foot system compatible with Part #5011-4.

The zig-zag presser foot is a versatile accessory essential for various sewing tasks, including zig-zag stitching, decorative stitching, and utility stitching, allowing for fabric feeding while accommodating the needle's side-to-side movement.

2. Important Safety Information

  • Always turn off and unplug your sewing machine before installing, removing, or cleaning any parts, including the presser foot.
  • Keep fingers clear of the needle and presser foot area when the machine is powered on.
  • Ensure the presser foot is securely attached before operating the sewing machine.
  • Use only the correct type of presser foot for your sewing machine model to prevent damage to the machine or injury.
  • Store presser feet and other sewing accessories out of reach of children.

4. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps to properly install the snap-on zig zag presser foot onto your sewing machine:

  1. Power Off: Ensure your sewing machine is turned off and unplugged from the power outlet.
  2. Raise Needle and Presser Foot Lifter: Raise the needle to its highest position and lift the presser foot lifter lever.
  3. Remove Old Presser Foot (if applicable): Locate the small lever or button at the back of the presser foot holder. Press or push it to release the currently attached presser foot. Carefully remove the old foot.
  4. Position New Presser Foot: Place the new UpStart Components zig zag presser foot directly under the presser foot holder, aligning the crossbar of the foot with the groove on the holder.
  5. Snap On: Lower the presser foot lifter lever slowly. The presser foot holder should snap securely onto the crossbar of the new presser foot. You should hear a click, indicating it is locked into place.
  6. Verify Installation: Gently try to pull the presser foot down to ensure it is firmly attached and does not wobble.

5. Operating Instructions

Once the zig zag presser foot is installed, you can begin sewing. This foot is primarily used for zig-zag stitches, but can also be used for straight stitches and other utility stitches where the needle moves side-to-side.

  • Select Stitch: Choose the desired zig-zag stitch pattern on your sewing machine. Adjust the stitch width and length according to your fabric and project requirements.
  • Position Fabric: Place your fabric under the presser foot, ensuring the raw edge is aligned with your desired seam allowance.
  • Lower Presser Foot: Lower the presser foot lifter lever to bring the presser foot down onto the fabric.
  • Begin Sewing: Start sewing slowly, guiding the fabric gently. The wide opening of the zig zag foot allows the needle to move freely from side to side without hitting the foot.
  • Test Stitch: It is recommended to always test your stitch settings on a scrap piece of fabric before sewing on your main project.

6. Care and Maintenance

Proper care will extend the life of your presser foot and ensure optimal performance:

  • Cleaning: Periodically wipe the presser foot with a soft, dry cloth to remove lint and dust. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Storage: Store the presser foot in a dry, clean place, preferably in a sewing accessory box, to prevent scratches or damage.
  • Inspection: Before each use, inspect the presser foot for any signs of damage, bending, or wear. A damaged foot can affect stitch quality or even damage your machine.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues while using the presser foot, consider the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
