1. Introduction
This manual provides instructions for the proper installation, operation, and maintenance of your UpStart Components Replacement Bobbin Case. This bobbin case is specifically designed for the Riccar 3300 sewing machine and is compatible with Singer part number #541678. It is a high-quality replacement part intended to restore optimal sewing performance.
Please read these instructions carefully before attempting to install or use the bobbin case to ensure safe and efficient operation.
2. Safety Information
- Always turn off and unplug your sewing machine before performing any maintenance, installation, or part replacement.
- Handle the bobbin case with care to avoid dropping or damaging it.
- Keep small parts away from children.
- If you are unsure about any step, consult a qualified sewing machine technician.
3. Setup and Installation
Follow these steps to replace your old bobbin case with the new UpStart Components unit.
- Prepare the Sewing Machine: Ensure your Riccar 3300 sewing machine is turned off and unplugged from the power outlet. Raise the needle to its highest position.
- Access the Bobbin Area: Open the bobbin cover plate on your sewing machine to expose the bobbin and bobbin case.
- Remove the Old Bobbin Case: Carefully remove the existing bobbin and then the old bobbin case. Note its orientation for easier installation of the new one.
- Inspect the New Bobbin Case: Examine the new UpStart Components bobbin case for any visible defects or damage.
- Install the New Bobbin Case: Insert the new bobbin case into the sewing machine's bobbin housing. Ensure it clicks securely into place and is oriented correctly according to your machine's design. It should sit flush and not wobble.

4. Operating Instructions
Once the new bobbin case is installed, follow these steps to prepare it for sewing.
- Insert the Bobbin: Place a wound bobbin into the new bobbin case. Ensure the thread unwinds in the correct direction (usually counter-clockwise when viewed from the top, but refer to your sewing machine's manual for specific guidance).
- Thread the Bobbin Case: Guide the bobbin thread through the tension spring slot on the side of the bobbin case. Pull the thread gently until it slides under the tension spring and emerges from the small opening.

- Close the Bobbin Cover: Once the bobbin case is correctly threaded and seated, close the bobbin cover plate.
- Bring Up the Bobbin Thread: Hold the upper thread lightly, turn the handwheel towards you to lower and raise the needle once. The needle will catch the bobbin thread, bringing a loop up through the needle plate. Pull both threads to the back of the machine before starting to sew.
5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance of your bobbin case will ensure consistent sewing performance.
- Cleaning: Periodically remove the bobbin case and use a small brush or lint remover to clean out any lint, dust, or thread fragments that may accumulate around the tension spring or inside the case. Accumulation can affect thread tension.
- Inspection: Regularly inspect the bobbin case for any signs of wear, nicks, or burrs, especially on the edges where the thread passes. Such imperfections can snag the thread and cause breakage or skipped stitches.
- Tension Adjustment: The bobbin case has a small screw for tension adjustment. Only adjust this screw if you are experienced and confident in doing so, as incorrect tension can lead to sewing problems. Small adjustments can be made with a precision screwdriver.

6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues after installing the new bobbin case, consider the following common problems and solutions:
- Thread Jamming or Tangling:
- Ensure the bobbin is wound evenly and inserted correctly into the bobbin case.
- Verify the bobbin thread is properly guided through the tension spring.
- Check for any lint or loose threads inside the bobbin case or bobbin area.
- Skipped Stitches:
- Confirm the bobbin case is seated correctly and securely in the machine.
- Check for any damage or burrs on the bobbin case that might interfere with thread movement.
- Uneven Stitching or Poor Tension:
- Ensure the bobbin thread is correctly routed through the tension spring.
- Clean the tension spring area of any lint.
- If necessary, make very small adjustments to the bobbin case tension screw (turn clockwise to increase tension, counter-clockwise to decrease). Test on scrap fabric after each minor adjustment.
