Safety Information
Always adhere to safety precautions when operating the multimeter to prevent electric shock or damage to the device. This device is rated IEC CAT IV 600V. Ensure proper lead connection and function selection before testing.
- Do not exceed the maximum input values specified for each measurement range.
- Exercise extreme caution when working with voltages above 30V AC RMS, 42V peak, or 60V DC. These voltages pose a shock hazard.
- Before measuring current, ensure the circuit is de-energized and the multimeter is connected in series.
- Always inspect test leads for damage before use. Replace if insulation is compromised.
- Do not operate the meter if it appears damaged or if the case is open.
Setup and Battery Installation
The KAIWEETS ST600Y Multimeter requires batteries for operation. Please follow these steps for battery installation.
- Open the Battery Compartment: Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the multimeter. Use a suitable screwdriver to loosen the screw(s) securing the cover.
- Install Batteries: Insert the required batteries (typically AAA or 9V, refer to specifications for exact type) into the compartment, observing the correct polarity (+ and -) as indicated inside the compartment.
- Close the Compartment: Replace the battery compartment cover and tighten the screw(s) to secure it.

Connecting Test Leads
Connect the test leads to the appropriate input jacks on the multimeter:
- Insert the black test lead into the "COM" (Common) jack.
- Insert the red test lead into the "VΩHz" jack for voltage, resistance, frequency, capacitance, diode, and continuity measurements.
- For current measurements (Amps), insert the red test lead into the "A" jack.
Operating Instructions
Power On/Off
Press the Power button (usually marked with a power symbol) to turn the multimeter on or off.
Automatic Mode (SMART)
The ST600Y features an intelligent "SMART" mode that automatically identifies and measures AC/DC voltage, resistance, and continuity. This is the default mode upon power-on.
- Ensure test leads are connected correctly (black to COM, red to VΩHz).
- Apply the test probes to the circuit or component you wish to measure. The multimeter will automatically detect the measurement type and display the reading.

Manual Function Selection
For specific measurements not covered by the automatic mode, or to manually select a range, use the FUNC buttons.

Figure 4: Use the FUNC buttons to cycle through measurement functions.
- Press the FUNC button to cycle through available functions (e.g., AC Voltage, DC Voltage, Diode, Capacitance, Temperature).
- The selected function will be indicated on the display.
Specific Measurement Functions
- Voltage Measurement (AC/DC):
Connect leads as described in Setup. Select ACV or DCV using the FUNC button if not in auto mode. Apply probes in parallel to the circuit. The display will show the voltage reading.

Figure 5: Measuring DC voltage on a car battery.
- Current Measurement (AC/DC):
Move the red test lead to the "A" jack. Select ACA or DCA using the FUNC button. Connect the multimeter in series with the circuit. The display will show the current reading.
- Resistance Measurement:
Connect leads to COM and VΩHz. Select Resistance (Ω) if not in auto mode. Ensure the circuit is de-energized before measuring resistance. Apply probes across the component.
- Continuity Test:
Connect leads to COM and VΩHz. Select Continuity. The multimeter will beep if there is a continuous path (low resistance).
- Diode Test:
Connect leads to COM and VΩHz. Select Diode. Apply probes across the diode. The display will show the forward voltage drop.
- Capacitance Measurement:
Connect leads to COM and VΩHz. Select Capacitance. Ensure the capacitor is discharged before testing. Apply probes across the capacitor terminals.
- Frequency/Duty Cycle Measurement:
Connect leads to COM and VΩHz. Select Frequency (Hz) or Duty Cycle (%). Apply probes to the signal source.
- Temperature Measurement:
Connect the temperature probe (if included) to the appropriate jacks (usually VΩHz and COM). Select Temperature (°C/°F). Place the probe at the desired measurement point.
- NCV (Non-Contact Voltage) Detection:
Select NCV mode. Hold the top of the multimeter near a live AC voltage source. The device will indicate the presence of voltage with an audible beep and/or visual indicator.

Figure 6: Using NCV function to detect live voltage.
Data Hold Function
Press the HOLD button to freeze the current reading on the display. Press it again to release the hold and resume live readings.
Maintenance
Cleaning
Wipe the case with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not use abrasives or solvents. Keep the input terminals free of dirt and moisture.
Battery Replacement
When the low battery indicator appears on the display, replace the batteries promptly to ensure accurate readings. Follow the battery installation steps outlined in the Setup section.
Fuse Replacement
If the current measurement function fails, the fuse may need replacement. Refer to the specifications for the correct fuse type and rating. Fuse replacement typically involves opening the back case of the multimeter. If unsure, consult a qualified technician.
Storage
If the multimeter is not used for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage. Store the device in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Multimeter does not power on. | Dead or incorrectly installed batteries. | Check battery polarity, replace batteries. |
| No reading or "OL" (Overload) displayed. | Incorrect range selected (in manual mode), open circuit, or measurement exceeds range. | Switch to Auto mode, check circuit continuity, or select a higher range. |
| Inaccurate readings. | Low battery, dirty test leads/jacks, or external interference. | Replace batteries, clean leads/jacks, move away from strong electromagnetic fields. |
| Current measurement not working. | Blown fuse. | Replace the fuse (refer to Maintenance section). |
| "LEAD" error displayed. | Test leads not properly connected or faulty. | Ensure leads are fully inserted. Try new leads if available. |
