SIGMA Duo Magnetless Cadence Sensor User Manual

1. Introduction

The SIGMA Duo Magnetless Cadence Sensor is designed to provide accurate cadence data for your cycling training. This sensor is an ideal addition to your SIGMA ROX series GPS bicycle computer (ROX 4.0, ROX 4.0 Endurance, ROX 11.1 EVO, or ROX 12.1 EVO) and can also transmit data simultaneously to the SIGMA Ride app on your smartphone. It offers a magnetless design for quick and easy installation on your bicycle's crank arm.

3. Setup and Installation

3.1. Attaching the Sensor

  1. Identify a suitable flat surface on the inside of your bicycle's crank arm. Ensure there is sufficient clearance between the crank arm and the bicycle frame/chainstay.
  2. Securely attach the SIGMA Duo Cadence Sensor to the crank arm using the provided rubber bands or mounting accessories. The sensor should be firmly in place and not move during pedaling.
  3. Verify that the sensor does not interfere with any moving parts of the bicycle, such as the chain or frame, during a full pedal rotation.

3.2. Pairing with a Device

The SIGMA Duo sensor supports both ANT+ and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) for wireless data transmission.

  1. For SIGMA ROX Bicycle Computers:
    • Turn on your ROX 4.0, ROX 4.0 Endurance, ROX 11.1 EVO, or ROX 12.1 EVO computer.
    • Navigate to the sensor pairing menu on your ROX device (refer to your ROX computer's manual for specific steps).
    • Begin pedaling to activate the cadence sensor. The sensor will appear in the list of available sensors on your ROX computer.
    • Select the SIGMA Duo sensor to pair. Once paired, the cadence data will be displayed on your ROX computer.
  2. For SIGMA Ride App (Smartphone):
    • Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your smartphone.
    • Download and open the SIGMA Ride app.
    • In the app, navigate to the "Devices" or "Sensors" section.
    • Begin pedaling to activate the cadence sensor. The sensor will be detected by the app.
    • Select the SIGMA Duo sensor to connect. Cadence data will now be visible in the app.

Note: The sensor can be paired with multiple devices simultaneously (e.g., a ROX computer via ANT+ and a smartphone via BLE).

4. Operating the Sensor

Once the SIGMA Duo Cadence Sensor is correctly installed and paired with your desired device(s), it operates automatically. Simply begin pedaling, and the sensor will detect your cadence and transmit the data wirelessly.

  • Automatic Activation: The sensor activates when it detects movement (pedaling).
  • Data Transmission: Cadence data is continuously transmitted to all paired devices.
  • Automatic Deactivation: The sensor will enter a low-power sleep mode after a period of inactivity to conserve battery life.

5. Maintenance

5.1. Cleaning

To ensure optimal performance and longevity, keep the sensor clean. Wipe it with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the sensor's casing or electronics.

5.2. Battery Replacement

The SIGMA Duo Cadence Sensor uses a Lithium Metal battery. When the battery level is low, your paired device (ROX computer or SIGMA Ride app) may indicate a low battery warning or experience intermittent data transmission. To replace the battery:

  1. Carefully open the battery compartment cover on the sensor.
  2. Remove the old battery.
  3. Insert a new Lithium Metal battery, ensuring correct polarity.
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely to maintain water resistance.

Note: Dispose of old batteries responsibly according to local regulations.

6. Troubleshooting

  • No Cadence Data Displayed:
    • Ensure the sensor is correctly installed and securely attached to the crank arm.
    • Confirm that the sensor is activated by pedaling.
    • Check if the sensor is properly paired with your ROX computer or SIGMA Ride app. If not, attempt to re-pair it.
    • Verify the battery level. Replace the battery if it is low or depleted.
    • Ensure there are no strong electromagnetic interferences nearby.
  • Intermittent Cadence Readings:
    • Check the sensor's mounting. It should be stable and not shifting during rides.
    • Ensure the sensor is within range of your paired device.
    • Low battery can cause intermittent readings. Replace the battery.
  • Sensor Not Detected During Pairing:
    • Make sure the sensor is active (pedal a few times).
    • Ensure Bluetooth (for app) or ANT+ (for ROX computer) is enabled on your receiving device.
    • Try moving closer to the sensor with your receiving device.
    • Check if the sensor is already paired with another device that might be monopolizing the connection.
    • Perform a battery check and replacement if necessary.
