2. Important Safety Information

Please read all instructions carefully before installation and use. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in injury, damage to the product, or damage to your vehicle.

  • Professional Installation Recommended: If you are unsure about any aspect of installation, consult a qualified car audio technician.
  • Power Disconnection: Always disconnect the vehicle's negative battery terminal before beginning any electrical work to prevent short circuits and electrical shock.
  • Proper Wiring: Ensure all wiring connections are secure and properly insulated to prevent shorts and fire hazards. Use appropriate gauge wire for power and ground connections.
  • Ventilation: Although designed for compact spaces, ensure the subwoofer has adequate ventilation to prevent overheating. Do not block any vents.
  • Mounting Security: Securely mount the subwoofer to prevent it from shifting during vehicle movement, which could cause injury or damage.
  • Volume Levels: Prolonged exposure to high volume levels can cause hearing damage. Adjust volume responsibly.
  • Water Exposure: This product is not waterproof. Avoid exposing it to moisture or liquids.

3. What's in the Box

Verify that all components are present before beginning installation:

  • Gravity Warzone WZ10US 10" Active Subwoofer
  • Wired Remote Control
  • Power/Speaker Input Harness
  • Mounting Hardware (screws, brackets, foam pads)
  • User Manual (this document)

4. Setup & Installation

The WZ10US subwoofer is designed for installation within the hub of your vehicle's spare tire. Ensure your spare tire well has sufficient depth and diameter to accommodate the unit.

4.1 Placement and Mounting

  1. Locate your vehicle's spare tire well. Remove the spare tire and any existing tools or covers.
  2. Place the WZ10US subwoofer into the center of the spare tire. Ensure it sits flush and does not interfere with the tire's structure or the vehicle's trunk floor cover.
  3. Utilize the provided mounting hardware to secure the subwoofer. The subwoofer is designed to be held in place by the spare tire's central bolt or a similar securing mechanism. If your vehicle uses a plastic post, you may need to adapt the mounting. The subwoofer has a central threaded insert on its underside for this purpose.
  4. Apply the foam pads to the contact points of the mounting brackets to prevent rattles and provide a snug fit.

4.2 Wiring Connections

Before making any electrical connections, ensure the vehicle's negative battery terminal is disconnected.

  • Power (B+): Connect the main power wire (typically red) from the subwoofer's harness to the vehicle's positive battery terminal. Use an in-line fuse (not included, recommended 15A) as close to the battery as possible.
  • Ground (GND): Connect the ground wire (typically black) from the subwoofer's harness to a clean, unpainted metal surface on the vehicle's chassis. Ensure a good electrical connection.
  • Remote Turn-On (REM):
    • Low-Level Input (RCA): If using RCA inputs from an aftermarket head unit, connect the remote turn-on wire from the head unit to the REM terminal on the subwoofer's harness.
    • High-Level Input (Speaker Level): If connecting directly to factory speaker wires, the subwoofer features an auto power on/off function. In this case, the REM wire may not be needed, or it can be connected to an accessory power source that turns on with the ignition.
  • Audio Input:
    • RCA Input: Connect RCA cables from your head unit's subwoofer or full-range pre-outs to the RCA input jacks on the subwoofer.
    • High-Level Input: Use the provided speaker-level input harness to connect directly to your vehicle's speaker wires. This is ideal for factory head units without RCA outputs.

5. Operating Instructions

Once installed and wired, you can adjust the subwoofer's settings for optimal performance.

5.1 Initial Power On

After all connections are made, reconnect the vehicle's negative battery terminal. Turn on your car's ignition and audio system. The subwoofer should power on, indicated by the power LED on the remote control (if connected) or on the unit itself.

5.2 Adjusting Controls

The WZ10US features several adjustable controls to fine-tune its output to your vehicle's acoustics and personal preference. These controls are typically located on the subwoofer's top panel (refer to Figure 4.3).

  • Gain Control: Adjusts the input sensitivity of the subwoofer. Start with the gain at minimum and slowly increase it until the bass blends well with your main speakers without distortion.
  • Low Pass Filter (LPF): Controls the upper frequency limit that the subwoofer will play. Frequencies above this setting will be filtered out. Adjust this between 40Hz and 150Hz to blend smoothly with your main speakers. A common starting point is 80Hz.
  • Phase Shift: Compensates for time alignment problems in the system. If the bass sounds weak or out of sync, try switching the phase between 0° and 180°. Choose the setting that provides the most impactful and cohesive bass.
  • Bass Boost: Increases the sound level of specific low frequencies (0 to 12 dB). Use this sparingly to add more punch to the bass. Excessive bass boost can lead to distortion.
  • Remote Level Control: The wired remote allows you to conveniently adjust the overall bass volume from your listening position without accessing the subwoofer directly.

6. Maintenance

The Gravity Warzone WZ10US subwoofer requires minimal maintenance.

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the exterior of the subwoofer. Do not use harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaners.
  • Connections: Periodically check all wiring connections to ensure they remain secure and free from corrosion.
  • Ventilation: Ensure that the area around the subwoofer remains clear of obstructions to allow for proper heat dissipation.
