1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the JULIAQUA Aquarium Heater. This 300W heater is specifically designed for aquariums with a capacity ranging from 80 to 250 liters. It allows for precise temperature adjustment within the 18-34 °C range, ensuring optimal conditions for your aquatic environment. This heater is suitable for both freshwater and saltwater setups and operates on AC220-240V 50-60Hz.

The heater features an automatic on/off function based on the set temperature, contributing to electricity savings. The current water temperature and the target temperature are displayed on the controller. Additionally, it includes over-temperature protection to safeguard your fish or turtles.

2. Safety Information

  • Always unplug the heater from the power outlet before performing any maintenance, cleaning, or handling inside the aquarium.
  • Ensure the heater is fully submerged in water before plugging it in. Operating the heater out of water can cause damage and pose a fire hazard.
  • The external controller is NOT waterproof. Keep it dry and away from water splashes.
  • Before initial use, inspect the heater for any signs of damage. Do not use if damaged.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Avoid touching the heater directly after it has been operating, as it may be hot. Allow it to cool down before handling.
  • Ensure the power cord is not pinched or damaged.

Important Tip: Human body temperature is approximately 36°C. Since the heater's operating temperature is typically lower (18-34°C), the water may feel cool to the touch even when the heater is functioning correctly. Do not rely on hand temperature to assess heater operation.

4. Setup

  1. Unpack and Inspect: Carefully remove the heater from its packaging. Check for any visible damage to the heater unit, cable, or controller. Do not proceed with installation if any damage is found.
  2. Placement: Position the heater fully submerged in the aquarium water. For optimal temperature accuracy and distribution, it is recommended to place the heater near the water outlet where water circulates.
  3. Orientation: The heater can be installed either vertically or horizontally. Horizontal placement generally offers higher accuracy in temperature readings due to better water flow around the sensor.
  4. Secure the Heater: Use the provided suction cups to firmly attach the heater to the inside wall of your aquarium. Ensure it is stable and cannot be dislodged by fish or other aquarium inhabitants.
  5. Controller Placement: Position the external controller in a dry location, away from water splashes. Remember, the controller is not waterproof.
  6. Connect to Power: Once the heater is securely installed and fully submerged, plug the power cord into a suitable electrical outlet.

5. Operating Instructions

  1. Power On: After installation, plug the heater into a power outlet. The display on the controller will light up, showing the current water temperature and the set target temperature.
  2. Adjusting Temperature: The temperature can be easily adjusted by pressing the button on the controller. Press the button to cycle through the desired temperature settings within the 18-34 °C range.
  3. Automatic Operation: The heater will automatically turn on when the water temperature falls below the set target temperature and turn off once the target temperature is reached. This automatic function helps save electricity and maintain a stable environment.
  4. Monitoring: Regularly check the display on the controller to ensure the water temperature is within the desired range.

6. Maintenance

  • Regular Cleaning: Over time, algae and mineral deposits may accumulate on the heater's surface. Unplug the heater and remove it from the aquarium. Gently clean the surface with a soft brush or cloth and warm water. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • Inspect Cable and Controller: Periodically check the power cable for any fraying or damage. Ensure the controller remains dry and free from moisture.
  • Water Changes: Always unplug the heater during water changes to prevent it from operating in air, which can cause damage.

7. Troubleshooting

Error Codes (E1, E2, 04)

If your display shows E1, E2, or 04 and the heater is not functioning, you can attempt a reset procedure:

  1. Press and hold the button on the controller for 20 seconds.
  2. You will see a number displayed (e.g., 66).
  3. Quickly press the button three times.
  4. Stop pressing the button. The display should show a new number (e.g., if it showed 66, it should now show 69).
  5. Wait 2 seconds for the heater to return to normal operation.

Note: The displayed number and corresponding reset value may vary (e.g., 67 requires setting 70, 68 requires setting 71, etc.).

General Issues

  • Heater not turning on: Check if the power plug is securely inserted. Ensure the heater is fully submerged. Verify the set temperature is higher than the current water temperature.
  • Temperature not reaching target: Ensure the heater wattage is appropriate for your aquarium size (refer to specifications). Check for strong water currents that might be dissipating heat too quickly. If the desired temperature is significantly higher than the ambient room temperature, a larger wattage heater might be required.
  • Temperature fluctuations: Ensure the heater is placed in an area with good water circulation. Avoid placing it directly next to a thermometer if the thermometer is not part of the heater's sensor.
