6. Setup and Installation
Follow these steps to properly install the replacement battery into your compatible Motorola radio.
- Power Off Device: Ensure your Motorola radio is completely powered off before attempting to remove or install the battery.
- Remove Old Battery: Locate the battery release latch or button on your radio. Press or slide it to unlock the existing battery. Carefully slide the old battery out of the battery compartment.
- Insert New Battery: Align the CS BATTERY Replacement Battery with the battery compartment of your radio. Ensure the contacts on the battery align with the contacts in the radio.
- Secure Battery: Gently slide the new battery into the compartment until it clicks into place, indicating it is securely locked. Do not force the battery.
- Initial Charge: For optimal performance, it is recommended to fully charge the new battery before its first use. Refer to the "Operating Instructions" section for charging details.
7. Operating Instructions
Charging the Battery:
Use only a compatible Motorola charger or a charger specifically designed for this battery type. Improper charging can damage the battery and void the warranty.
- Connect the charger to a power source.
- Place the radio with the installed battery, or the battery itself if using a standalone charger, into the charging cradle.
- Observe the charger's indicator light. It typically shows red for charging and green for fully charged.
- Allow the battery to charge until the indicator shows a full charge. This may take several hours for a completely depleted battery.
Battery Usage:
This battery is designed for high-capacity circulation, providing extended operational time for your radio. It features no memory effect, allowing you to charge it at any time without significantly reducing its overall lifespan.
- Avoid completely draining the battery whenever possible, though occasional full discharge and recharge cycles can help calibrate the battery meter.
- If your wireless device's cruising time is significantly reduced, it indicates that the battery's capacity has diminished, and it may be time for replacement.
8. Maintenance
Proper maintenance can extend the life and performance of your battery.
- Storage: If storing the battery for an extended period, store it in a cool, dry place at approximately 50% charge. Avoid extreme temperatures.
- Cleaning: Periodically clean the battery contacts with a clean, dry cloth to ensure good connection with the radio and charger. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Temperature: The optimal charging temperature range is 40°F-105°F (4°C-40°C). Avoid charging or using the battery in extremely hot or cold environments.
- Disposal: When the battery reaches the end of its life, dispose of it responsibly at an authorized recycling facility. Do not dispose of it in household waste or by incineration.
9. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Battery not charging | Incorrectly seated in charger; dirty contacts; faulty charger; battery too hot/cold. | Ensure battery is properly seated. Clean battery and charger contacts. Try a different charger. Allow battery to reach room temperature. |
| Radio not powering on with new battery | Battery not fully charged; battery not properly installed; incompatible battery. | Fully charge the battery. Re-install the battery, ensuring it clicks into place. Verify battery compatibility with your radio model. |
| Short operating time after full charge | Battery capacity degradation; extreme operating temperatures. | This indicates the battery is nearing the end of its lifespan and may need replacement. Ensure operation within recommended temperature ranges. |
| Battery feels hot during charging/use | Normal operation (slight warmth); overcharging; internal fault. | Slight warmth is normal. If excessively hot, disconnect immediately. Ensure charger is compatible. Discontinue use if heat persists or is extreme. |
