4. Setup

4.1 Connecting to a Television

The DR-MV80B offers multiple connection options for your television. For optimal picture quality, use the HDMI connection.

  1. HDMI Connection (Recommended):
    • Connect one end of an HDMI cable to the HDMI OUT port on the rear of the DR-MV80B.
    • Connect the other end of an HDMI cable to an available HDMI input on your television.
    • Select the corresponding HDMI input on your TV using its remote control.
  2. Composite Video Connection:
    • Connect the yellow video cable to the VIDEO OUT port on the DR-MV80B and the yellow VIDEO IN port on your TV.
    • Connect the red and white audio cables to the AUDIO L/R OUT ports on the DR-MV80B and the corresponding AUDIO L/R IN ports on your TV.
    • Select the corresponding AV input on your TV.

4.2 Power Connection

After connecting the video and audio cables, plug the power cord into the AC IN socket on the rear of the unit, then plug the other end into a wall outlet.

4.3 Initial Setup

Upon first power-on, the unit may guide you through an initial setup wizard. Follow the on-screen prompts to set language, aspect ratio, and other basic preferences. This unit is tuner-free, meaning it does not have an internal TV tuner for receiving broadcast signals directly.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Basic Playback

DVD Playback:

  1. Press the POWER button to turn on the unit.
  2. Press the DVD/VCR button on the remote or front panel to select DVD mode.
  3. Press the OPEN/CLOSE button to open the DVD tray.
  4. Place a DVD disc onto the tray with the label side facing up.
  5. Press OPEN/CLOSE again to close the tray. Playback will usually start automatically. If not, press PLAY.

VHS Playback:

  1. Press the POWER button.
  2. Press the DVD/VCR button to select VCR mode.
  3. Insert a VHS cassette into the VHS slot.
  4. Press PLAY.

5.2 Recording

The DR-MV80B supports recording to DVD-RAM, DVD-RW, DVD-R, +RW, +R, and VHS Hi-Fi tapes. Ensure you have a blank, recordable disc or tape inserted.

Recording from External Source (e.g., Cable Box, Satellite Receiver):

  1. Connect the external source's audio/video output to the DR-MV80B's corresponding INPUT jacks (e.g., L1, L2).
  2. Select the desired recording format (DVD or VHS) using the DVD/VCR button.
  3. Select the correct input source on the DR-MV80B (e.g., L1, L2) using the INPUT SELECT button.
  4. Start playback on your external source.
  5. Press the REC button on the DR-MV80B or remote control to begin recording.
  6. Press STOP to end recording.

Note: This unit is tuner-free and cannot record directly from broadcast TV signals without an external tuner source.

5.3 Dubbing (Copying)

The DR-MV80B allows for dubbing content between DVD and VHS formats.

Dubbing from VHS to DVD:

  1. Insert the VHS tape you wish to copy into the VCR slot.
  2. Insert a blank, recordable DVD disc into the DVD tray.
  3. Press the DVD/VCR button to select VCR mode.
  4. Press the DUBBING button (or similar, refer to remote control layout) to initiate the dubbing process. The unit will guide you through the steps.

Dubbing from DVD to VHS:

  1. Insert the DVD disc you wish to copy into the DVD tray.
  2. Insert a blank VHS tape into the VCR slot.
  3. Press the DVD/VCR button to select DVD mode.
  4. Press the DUBBING button to initiate the dubbing process.

Note: Copy protection may prevent dubbing of certain commercial DVDs or VHS tapes.
