1. Important Safety Information
Read and understand all instructions and warnings before operating this hydraulic jack. Failure to follow these instructions may result in property damage, personal injury, or death.
- WARNING: This jack is not for automotive use. Do not use this jack to lift vehicles.
- Always operate the hydraulic jack on a horizontal, flat, and stable surface.
- Avoid using the jack on sandy, muddy, or loose surfaces, as this can damage the oil cylinder.
- Ensure the load is centered on the jack's saddle.
- Never exceed the rated load capacity of 5 tons.
- Keep hands and feet clear of the jack and the load during operation.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety gloves and eye protection.
- Do not modify the jack or its components.
2. Product Overview
The Bonvoisin 5T Hydraulic Bottle Jack with CP-180 Pump is a compact and robust lifting tool designed for industrial applications. It features an excellent lifting capacity of 5 tons and is suitable for use in narrow spaces due to its low-profile design. The jack's surface is treated with corrosion-resistant baked paint to ensure durability and extend product life.

3. Setup
- Unpacking: Carefully remove the hydraulic jack and CP-180 pump from its packaging. Inspect all components for any signs of damage during transit.
- Component Identification: Ensure you have both the hydraulic jack unit and the CP-180 pump, along with any connecting hoses.
- Connecting the Pump: Connect the CP-180 pump to the hydraulic jack using the provided hose. Ensure all connections are secure and free from leaks.
- Initial Air Bleeding (if necessary): Before first use, or if the jack has been stored for a long time, it may be necessary to bleed any air from the hydraulic system. Consult the pump's specific instructions for this procedure.
- Placement: Position the jack on a firm, level, and stable surface capable of supporting the intended load. The jack cylinder features two fixing holes for permanent installation if required.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Lifting the Load
- Ensure the jack is placed correctly under the load, with the load centered on the jack's saddle.
- Close the release valve on the pump (usually by turning it clockwise) to build pressure.
- Operate the pump handle to begin lifting. Note that it may take some time for the oil in the pump to flow through the hose to the hydraulic jack, so the jack may not lift immediately during the initial strokes. This is normal and not a defect.
- Pump the handle steadily until the desired height is reached, ensuring the load remains stable. Do not exceed the maximum lift height of 50 mm.
- Once the load is lifted, secure it with appropriate support stands before working underneath. Never rely solely on the hydraulic jack to support a load.
4.2 Lowering the Load
- Ensure the area around the load is clear.
- Slowly open the release valve on the pump (usually by turning it counter-clockwise) to gradually lower the load.
- If the jack piston is fully extended, it may not retract automatically after the pressure is released. In such cases, the piston needs to retract by gravity or by being pushed directly by hand. This is not a quality issue.
- Once the load is fully lowered, close the release valve.

5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your hydraulic jack.
- Inspection: Before each use, inspect the jack for any visible damage, oil leaks, or loose components. Do not use a damaged jack.
- Cleaning: Keep the jack clean and free from dirt, grease, and debris. Wipe down the exterior with a clean cloth.
- Oil Level: Periodically check the hydraulic oil level. If low, refill with a high-quality hydraulic jack oil. Refer to the pump's manual for specific oil type and refilling procedures.
- Storage: Store the jack in a clean, dry environment. Ensure the piston is fully retracted before storage to protect it from corrosion and damage.
- Corrosion Protection: The jack's surface is treated with corrosion-resistant baked paint. Avoid scratching or damaging this coating to maintain its protective properties.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your hydraulic jack, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Jack does not lift or lifts slowly. | Air in the hydraulic system; Low hydraulic oil level; Initial oil flow delay. | Bleed air from the system (refer to pump manual); Check and refill hydraulic oil; Continue pumping, as initial strokes may take time for oil to flow. |
| Jack piston does not retract automatically. | Piston is fully extended; Requires gravity or manual assistance. | This is not a defect. Gently push the piston directly by hand or allow gravity to retract it. |
| Oil leakage. | Loose connections; Damaged seals. | Tighten all connections; If seals are damaged, contact customer support for repair or replacement. |
If the problem persists after attempting these solutions, please contact Bonvoisin customer support.
