1. Introduction
This manual provides essential instructions for the assembly, operation, and maintenance of your Realspace Lateral 2-Drawer File Cabinet. Please read this manual thoroughly before beginning assembly or use to ensure safe and proper functionality. Keep this manual for future reference.
2. Safety Information
- Assembly: This product is heavy and/or oversized. Assembly may require more than one person to prevent injury. Exercise caution during handling and assembly.
- Weight Capacity: Each drawer is tested to support a maximum weight of 20 lb (approximately 9 kg). Do not exceed this weight limit to prevent damage or instability.
- Stability: The cabinet features an interlocking mechanism that allows only one drawer to be open at a time. This design enhances stability and helps prevent the cabinet from tipping over. Always ensure only one drawer is open at any given moment.
- Placement: Place the cabinet on a level, stable surface.
- Children: Keep children away from the cabinet during assembly. Do not allow children to climb on or play with the cabinet, especially with open drawers.

4. Setup
Assembly is required for this file cabinet. Due to the product's weight and size, it is strongly recommended that two people perform the assembly process.
General Assembly Guidelines:
- Unpack Components: Carefully unpack all parts and hardware from the packaging. Lay them out on a clean, soft surface (e.g., a blanket or carpet) to prevent scratches.
- Identify Parts: Refer to the included assembly diagram (not provided in this manual) to identify each component.
- Follow Instructions: Assemble the cabinet according to the step-by-step instructions provided in the separate assembly guide that came with your product. Pay close attention to diagrams and hardware usage.
- Secure Connections: Ensure all screws, cam locks, and other fasteners are tightened securely. Do not overtighten.
- Drawer Installation: Install the drawers onto the full-extension slides, ensuring they glide smoothly.
- Final Placement: Once assembled, carefully move the cabinet to its desired location, ensuring it is on a level surface.
5. Operating Instructions
Drawer Operation:
The cabinet features two drawers with full-extension ball-bearing slides for smooth operation and easy access to the back of the drawer. To open a drawer, gently pull the handle. To close, push the drawer firmly until it is fully seated.

Important: Due to the interlocking safety mechanism, only one drawer can be opened at a time. Attempting to open both drawers simultaneously will engage the safety feature, preventing the second drawer from opening.
Locking Mechanism:
The top drawer is equipped with a key lock to secure your documents. To lock the top drawer:
- Ensure the top drawer is fully closed.
- Insert the key into the lock cylinder located on the top drawer.
- Turn the key clockwise to engage the lock.
- Remove the key. The top drawer is now secured.
To unlock the top drawer, insert the key and turn it counter-clockwise.

6. Maintenance
Cleaning:
- Wipe surfaces with a soft, damp cloth.
- Avoid using harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, or furniture polish that may damage the finish.
- Promptly wipe up any spills to prevent staining or water damage.
Drawer Slides:
- Periodically check drawer slides for smooth operation. If they become stiff, a small amount of silicone-based lubricant can be applied to the moving parts.
- Ensure no debris obstructs the slides.
7. Troubleshooting
- Drawer not opening/closing smoothly: Check for obstructions in the drawer slides. Ensure the cabinet is on a level surface. Verify that the interlocking mechanism is not engaged by attempting to open another drawer.
- Top drawer not locking: Ensure the drawer is fully closed and flush with the cabinet frame before attempting to lock. Check if the key is fully inserted and turned correctly.
- Cabinet feels unstable: Verify that all assembly hardware is securely tightened. Ensure the cabinet is placed on a flat, level surface. Do not open more than one drawer at a time.
