3. Setup Guide

3.1 Unpacking and Initial Inspection

Carefully remove the DR82 leak detector and all accessories from the blow-molded case. Inspect all components for any signs of damage. Ensure all included items are present as listed in the "What's Included" section.

3.2 Charging the Device

Before first use, fully charge the DR82 using the provided USB-C cable and power adapter. Connect the USB-C cable to the charging port on the device and the adapter to a power outlet. The battery indicator on the LCD screen will show charging status. A full charge typically provides over 10 hours of operation.

3.3 Attaching Filter Tips

The DR82 comes with replaceable filtered tips. To attach a tip, gently push it onto the end of the flexible probe until it is securely seated. Ensure the tip is clean and free of debris before use to maintain optimal detection performance.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Powering On and Warm-up

Press and hold the power button (usually indicated by a universal power symbol) to turn on the device. The DR82 will undergo a brief warm-up sequence. Wait for the device to indicate it is ready for use before proceeding with leak detection.

4.2 Adjusting Sensitivity

The DR82 offers multiple sensitivity levels (High, Medium, Low, Turbo). Use the "SENSITIVITY MAX ON/OFF" button to cycle through these settings. Start with a higher sensitivity for general scanning and reduce it to pinpoint smaller leaks more accurately.

4.3 Zeroing the Device

To ensure accurate readings, zero the device in a clean, refrigerant-free environment. Press the "ZERO MANUAL/AUTO" button. This calibrates the sensor to the ambient air, preventing false positives. The device can also automatically zero.

4.4 Leak Detection Procedure

  1. Slowly move the flexible probe along suspected leak points, such as joints, valves, and connections.
  2. Observe the backlit LCD screen for visual indications of a leak (bar graph, digital digits).
  3. Listen for the audible beeper and watch for the LED tip to illuminate, indicating the presence and intensity of a refrigerant leak.
  4. Once a leak is detected, move the probe away briefly and then slowly re-approach to confirm the leak source. Adjust sensitivity as needed for precise pinpointing.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Filter Tip Replacement

Regularly inspect the filter tip for dirt or damage. Replace the filter tip when it becomes visibly dirty or if detection performance degrades. To replace, gently pull off the old tip and push on a new one from the included replacements.

5.2 Cleaning the Device

Wipe the device with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure the device is dry before storage or further use.

5.3 Storage

Store the DR82 in its blow-molded case in a cool, dry place when not in use. Avoid extreme temperatures and direct sunlight.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Device not powering on: Ensure the battery is charged. Connect to the USB-C charger and allow it to charge for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power on again.
  • Inaccurate or inconsistent readings:
    • Zero the device in a clean air environment.
    • Check and replace the filter tip if it is dirty or clogged.
    • Ensure the probe is moved slowly during detection.
  • No leak detected despite suspected leak: Increase the sensitivity setting. Ensure the probe is positioned correctly near the suspected leak source.
